The Operations Department is responsible for overseeing public works like road and infrastructure maintenance ensuring safety and efficiency, as well as resilience in service delivery. We are looking for a dynamic and collaborative individual to join our team in this exciting and vacant role as an Operations Roads, Traffic and Transportation Technologist! In this role you will provide technical constructability, operability and project management to the Operations Roads team on roads, traffic, transportation, and safety matters on the existing transportation network, as well as:
- Undertaking field investigations related to operational traffic issues, safety, parking, or other operational matters stemming from resident, Council or senior staff inquiries, and recommends and implements solutions.
- Field operations and administration of the Town’s Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) and red light camera (RLC) programs and delivering the Speed Advisory Program in educating the community on the use of speed radar and LED displays.
- Supporting the delivery of the Traffic Calming Program including permanent and seasonal Traffic Calming installations in alignment with the Town’s Traffic Calming Policy and Traffic Calming Strategy, and leading ongoing operational elements.
- Identifying existing and future potential operational deficiencies on the transportation network and recommending road and traffic improvements.
- Participating as a key stakeholder in the planning of the Town’s transportation system including transportation master plans, GO stops/station planning, traffic calming systems and measures, traffic control signals, etc.
- Overseeing the operations of traffic-related systems including traffic signage, traffic control signals, traffic monitoring, communication and illumination systems using various planning and design tools and techniques.
Requirements The preferred candidate holds:
- A College Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology.
- Certified Engineering Technologist designation (C.E.T.) through OACETT.
- Skilled Engineer’s (P.Eng.) designation from the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO)
is an asset.
- A minimum of five (5) years of demonstrated engineering experience, preferably in roads or traffic operations.
- Municipal operations or roads experience and experience using or maintaining geographic information systems (GIS) are assets.
- The successful candidate must have availability to attend fieldwork, meetings or other events, outside of core business hours when necessary.
- Valid Class "G" driver's license and reliable vehicle to use on corporate business.
