Description: Ophthalmic Assistant/Scribe

About Us: We, at High River Eye Surgeons, are seeking a part-time, energetic, highly motivated, Ophthalmic Assistant/Scribe to join our fast paced, growing ophthalmology practice. This position offers exciting one-on-one collaboration with our ophthalmologists and is unprecedented in its level of exposure to real medicine in practice.

Ophthalmic Scribe Job Purpose: to improve overall ophthalmologist productivity and patient satisfaction.

Clinical Duties (may include, but not limited to):

- Accompany the physician into the exam room to transcribe the history and examination as given by the patient and the physician.
- Transcribe the impression and plan, results of tests, prescriptions, and orders under the direction of the physician, using Electronic Health Record system and existing templates.
- Assist the physician during in-office procedures, ensuring proper informed consent is obtained, sets up and cleans up from procedures, collect laboratory specimens and arrange for lab services.
- Generate referral letters and insurance letters and fill out insurance for patients.
- Prepare examination rooms and maintain its cleanliness to provide all needed medications, forms, consents, and educational materials.
- Discussions with patients regarding surgeries, treatment plans and medication use




- Perform all job functions in a courteous and professional manner while representing the practice.
- Respect and maintain the privacy and dignity of patients and assure patients’ confidentiality.
- Willing to cross train and support other roles such as Ophthalmic Technician and Diagnostics
- Other clinical/administrative duties as assigned by Practice Managers.

Skills/Qualifications:

- High School Diploma or equivalent
- JCAHPO Certified Ophthalmic Scribe is an asset but not a requirement.
- Previous experience is highly desired but will train the right candidate.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Computer and typing skills are a must.
- Strong work ethics and ability to take initiative and multitask.
