Qualifications
MINIMAL FORMAL EDUCATION REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant health discipline (e.g., oral health, health-related fields such as dental hygiene, nutrition, nursing, etc.)
- Must be registered and licensed with the Manitoba Dental Hygienists Association.
- Must hold current CPR certification.
EXPERIENCE:
- Experience in giving presentations and public speaking required.
- Knowledge of Windows XP Office Qualified software, including Word, Publisher, and PowerPoint, required.
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills required.
- Ability to effectively collaborate with SDH team members, College staff and the public required.
- Excellent organizational skills required.
- Excellent writing skills required.
- Ability to work independently and self-initiate work is required.
- Ability to prioritize and meet deadline is required.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Students, Faculty Members, Community Members and Staff is required.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment is required.
- Ability to travel to other communities 3-4 times a year, for approximately one week each time is required.
- Ability to demonstrate tact, diplomacy, professionalism and respect for confidentiality is required.
- A satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
Key responsibilities
Program Evaluation and Reporting, including all financial responsibilities:
- Collect data from screenings, education sessions,
and patient outcomes.
- Purchase supplies, maintain all financial records and ensure that the initiative is balanced and budgeted, working with the finance administrator and the Director of the SDH.
- Is responsible for the reliability of financial information, i.e., ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and validity of transactions. This is achieved through compliance with University, RFHS, and College policies and procedures, as well as implementing any necessary processes to achieve these goals, working with the finance administrator and Director of the SDH.
- Works closely with the finance administrator and Director of the SDH to ensure overspending does not take place and to help plan for any anticipated surpluses.
- Assist in analyzing program impact and identifying areas for improvement.
- Contribute to annual evaluation reports and sustainability planning.
- Support the development of academic presentations or community updates.
Facilitate Patient Care Coordination:
- Support patients in overcoming barriers to accessing care (e.g., transportation, language, cultural, administrative).
- Coordinate with translators, community partners, and university clinics to streamline intake and referrals.
- Develop transportation support systems and other tools to improve access.
- Ensure referral processes and follow-up are managed efficiently and documented clearly.
Develop and Maintain Community Partnerships:
- Identify and engage new community organizations serving underserved populations.
- Establish formal agreements (MOUs) to support referrals and collaboration.
- Maintain strong working relationships and regular communication with existing partners.
- Prioritize focused recruitment and support of one community organization at a time to ensure needs are met before expanding.
Deliver Oral Health Education and Outreach:
- Develop culturally relevant oral health education materials in collaboration with community members.
- Deliver educational sessions and workshops tailored to the needs of specific communities.
- Track distribution of materials and participation in outreach efforts.
- Collaborate with dental and dental hygiene students in planning and delivering sessions.
Contribute to Student Learning and Curriculum Integration:
- Provide mentorship and support to dental and dental hygiene students during clinical outreach activities.
- Facilitate student involvement in screenings and community-based care.
- Coordinate with faculty to support curriculum integration of culturally safe care practices.
- Participate in discussions about curriculum planning and experiential learning improvements.
- May be required to perform related duties not exceeding skills and capabilities as required.
