Position Title: Outdoor Educator
Program: Revelstoke After School SocietyLocation: Begbie View Elementary, Revelstoke, British ColumbiaImmediate Supervisor: Center Manager
Position Overview:
The Outdoor Educator plays a vital role in creating a protected, happy, and engaging environment for children after school. With programming based 90% outdoors and 10% indoors, this role emphasizes nature-based learning, creativity, and relationship-building with children aged 5–10.
You will be responsible for planning and co-leading developmentally appropriate, nature-focused activities that align with the goals of the Revelstoke After School Society. Your role serves as a bridge between children and the natural world, promoting curiosity, confidence, and safe exploration.
Employment Terms:
- Start Date: September 08th, 2026
- Schedule: Monday–Friday, aligned with the School District 19 calendar (September–June), including early dismissals and Pro D Days
- Hours: 15 hours/week
- Core hours: 2:30–5:30 p.m. (exact times may vary based on program needs; minimum 2 hours/day)
- Wage: $21.00 – $22.00/hour, depending on experience and placement
- Pay Schedule: Bi-weekly
- Probation Period: 3 months [wage increase upon continuation of employment]
- Training: Paid training provided [Staff training date Sept 03rd]
- Certification Reimbursement: Reimbursement for mandatory certifications upon return the following school year
Key Responsibilities:
- Work alongside the Center Manager to supervise and support a maximum of 24 children per day, maintaining a 1:12 staff-to-child ratio at all times
- Ensure the physical and emotional safety of all participants during outdoor and indoor activities
- Facilitate a variety of engaging, age-appropriate games, crafts, and nature-based activities
- Plan and implement activities that foster creativity, cooperation,
exploration, and skill-building
- Lead and encourage active outdoor play in all weather conditions, supporting safe risk-taking
- Cultivate a warm, welcoming, and inclusive environment that supports children's well-being and individual needs
- Support conflict resolution and model positive communication and behavior
- Communicate daily with parents/caregivers during pick-up about their child’s experiences and progress
- Contribute to program planning and evaluation by sharing feedback and observations with the Center Manager
- Participate in regular staff meetings, debriefs, and training sessions to maintain a strong, collaborative team
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Must be 19 years or older or hold an ECEA certification
- Responsible Adult Certification (or willing to obtain prior to first day of employment)
- Pediatric/Children’s First Aid Certification (or willing to obtain)
- Clear Criminal Record Check through Interior Health (can be completed upon hire prior to first day of employment)
- Previous experience working with children in a childcare, recreation, or educational setting
- Strong interest and/or background in outdoor education, teaching, or a related field
- Proven ability to plan and lead activities that support diverse abilities and backgrounds
- Creative, organized, dependable, and enthusiastic
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated professionalism and ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
