The Aboriginal Coalition to End Homelessness Society (ACEH) is seeking an Outreach Program Coordinator to support the delivery of culturally safe, community-based services through our Community Access and Indigenous Support (CAIS) program in Port Hardy.
The Outreach Program Coordinator will build meaningful relationships with Family Members, provide practical and housing-related support, coordinate community programming and outreach initiatives, and support Indigenous Street Family through culturally grounded, holistic services.
Working closely with Family Members, community partners, and the CAIS team, this position will help connect individuals and families with housing, basic needs, community resources, cultural programming, and other supports that promote wellness, stability, and connection.
Who We Are The Aboriginal Coalition to End Homelessness Society is an Indigenous-led, non-profit organization dedicated to supporting First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
Our work centres the voices, experiences, and strengths of our Indigenous Street Community, whom we refer to as our Family Members. We provide culturally supportive housing, harm reduction, cultural support services, outreach, and housing-related programs while working to address the systemic and structural barriers that contribute to homelessness.
Job Details
Position: Outreach Program Coordinator
Position Type: Full-Time
Hours: 40 hours per week
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Location: 3950 Granville Street, Port Hardy, BC V0N 2P0
Hourly Wage: $31.50 per hour
Travel: Required
Compensation and Benefits
- $31.50 per hour
- Employer-matched RRSP contributions of up to 5%
- 3 weeks of paid vacation annually (6% accrual, prorated)
- 5 paid sick days per year
- Additional sick leave accrued at 1 day per month
- 3 unpaid personal days per year
- Extended health and dental benefits

Key Responsibilities
Family Member Support & Outreach
- Build respectful, culturally safe relationships with Family Members accessing CAIS services.
- Welcome and assist Family Members seeking program information, resources, and support.
- Respond to inquiries by phone and email and direct calls and requests appropriately.
- Provide practical support to Family Members, including assistance with basic needs such as bus tickets, groceries, government-issued identification, Status Card applications, clothing, rent, damage deposits, and other supports as funding permits.
- Provide referrals to emergency services, food banks, shelters, treatment programs, child and youth resources, and other community services as required.
- Support housing transitions and family reunification through a holistic, wraparound approach.
Housing & Case Management
- Complete program intakes and maintain secure and accurate client files.
- Maintain timely and accurate case notes in CAMS.
- Assist Family Members with housing applications, rental subsidies, and supportive housing registry submissions.
- Support Family Members in navigating housing and community resources.
- Participate in team meetings and case management discussions as required.
Community Programming & Outreach
- Coordinate and deliver monthly program calendars and community outreach initiatives.
- Organize and lead programming for Indigenous Street Family, including weekly meal preparation, distribution, and tracking.
- Support community-based programming and initiatives that promote connection, wellness, and cultural safety.
- Organize and/or provide transportation for family reunification, community programs, and land-based healing camps.
Crisis Support & Safety
- Apply crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques when responding to conflict or challenging situations.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies using First Aid and Naloxone training.
- Support conflict resolution between Family Members when required.
- Maintain a safe, respectful, culturally supportive, and non-judgmental environment.
- Maintain compliance with ACEH policies, procedures, and applicable requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the CAIS Manager.
Requirements
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check through the Criminal Records Review Program as a condition of employment.
- Valid First Aid & CPR and Naloxone certification.
- Ability to work independently and in community-based environments.
- Ability to travel as required for family reunification, community programs, land-based healing camps, and other program activities.
- Ability to work Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Qualifications and Educational Experiences
- Diploma in Social Work, Healthcare, Business Administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum two years of experience in social services, family support, community services, or a non-profit setting.
- Experience working with vulnerable populations, including individuals with disabilities, substance use experiences, and lived experience.
- Experience working with Indigenous peoples and understanding the impacts of colonization and intergenerational trauma.
- Experience supporting individuals with housing, homelessness, family reunification, or community-based services is an asset.
- Experience coordinating community programming, outreach initiatives, events, or other community-based activities is an asset.
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training is an asset.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong understanding of intergenerational trauma and its impacts on Indigenous communities.
- Knowledge of Indigenous cultures, community-based approaches, and culturally secure practices.
- Ability to work in a holistic, culturally safe, trauma-informed, and non-judgmental manner.
- Strong crisis intervention, de-escalation, and conflict resolution skills.
- Strong relationship-building and communication skills.
- Ability to build respectful relationships with Family Members, community partners, and service providers.
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and respond effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Effective written, verbal, and electronic communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and CAMS or other case management systems.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, professional boundaries, accurate documentation, and secure records.
- Demonstrated commitment to culturally safe, Indigenous-led, and community-based approaches to support and wellness.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to safely lift, carry, push, and pull program supplies and materials as required.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform other physical activities required to support outreach, programming, meal preparation, and community events.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs as required.
- Ability to safely transport and handle supplies, food, equipment, and other program materials.
