Job Overview
Merit Decorating Centre Ltd. has been serving Toronto homeowners, contractors, property managers, designers, and commercial customers for more than 40 years. As an established Benjamin Moore retailer, we pride ourselves on providing knowledgeable advice, dependable service, and the right products for every project.
We’re currently looking for an experienced Paint Associate to join our team.
This is a hands-on, customer-focused position for someone who enjoys working with paint, solving problems, and helping customers feel confident about their projects. From helping a homeowner choose the right product to preparing an order for a professional contractor, you’ll work with a wide variety of customers and projects every day.
As a Paint Associate, you’ll be responsible for providing friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient service while helping customers select, prepare, and purchase the right paint and related products for their needs.
Responsibilities
- Assist customers in person, over the phone, and by email with paint, colour, product, and project-related questions
- Listen to customers’ needs and recommend appropriate paint products and solutions for their projects
- Match colours and accurately mix and tint paint
- Prepare and process customer and contractor orders
- Assist with deliveries and pickups using the company vehicle
- Receive incoming shipments, organize inventory, and stock shelves
- Maintain an organized, clean, and professional store environment
- Help keep products, tinting equipment, and work areas ready for daily use
- Work closely with the rest of the Merit Decorating Centre team to provide customers with a consistently high level of service
Qualifications
- Minimum 16 months of previous paint-related experience
- Previous experience working in a paint store, decorating centre, hardware store, or similar environment is an asset
- Strong knowledge of paint products, applications, and colour matching
- Previous customer service or customer-facing experience
- Valid driver’s licence and ability to safely operate the company vehicle for pickups and deliveries
- Full colour vision and the ability to accurately distinguish between colours, which is essential for colour matching and tinting
- Ability to safely lift and handle products weighing up to 75 lbs
- Comfortable working in an environment where paint, coatings, and associated odours are regularly present
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Dependable, organized, and able to manage multiple customer requests in a busy retail setting
- Willingness to learn new products, techniques, and systems
We’re a small, experienced, and close-knit team, which means every person plays an important role in the business. You won’t be limited to doing the exact same task every day. You’ll work with homeowners tackling their first painting project, experienced painters and contractors who know exactly what they need, and customers looking for guidance on more unusual or challenging applications.
We value people who are dependable, take pride in their work, enjoy helping customers, and are willing to learn. Since we are an independent local business, you’ll also have the opportunity to develop a broad understanding of the paint industry rather than being limited to one narrow area of the store.
Pay: From $25.00 per hour
Work Location: In person
