The Grande Prairie Police Service (GPPS) is seekingexperienced police leaders interested in joining our organization as a StaffSergeant. The Staff Sergeant is a senior operational leadership roleresponsible for the supervision, guidance, and development of frontlinesupervisors and members while ensuring the effective delivery of policingservices aligned with GPPS strategic priorities. Staff Sergeants provideoperational oversight, investigative leadership, resource management, andorganizational direction in support of public safety, member wellness, andcommunity trust. The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptionalleadership, sound judgment, strategic thinking, and the ability to lead complexinvestigations, manage high-risk incidents, develop staff, and fostermeaningful community partnerships while advancing the mission, vision, andvalues of the Grande Prairie Police Service. Responsibilities
Provide leadership, supervision, and direction to Sergeants, frontline members, and civilian staff. Establish operational priorities and ensure alignment withGPPS strategic objectives. Oversee patrol and investigative operations while ensuring professional, effective, and lawful service delivery. Monitor and manage operational performance, workloaddistribution, and resource deployment. Provide mentorship, coaching, and professional developmentopportunities to supervisors and members. Conduct performance management activities, includingrecognition, corrective action, and development planning. Liaise with Crown Counsel and external partners to supportsuccessful investigative and judicial outcomes. Provide command and oversight during critical incidents andhigh-risk operations. Conduct operational risk assessments and implementappropriate mitigation strategies. Ensure compliance with legislation, policy, organizationalstandards, and rules of evidence. Identify emerging trends, risks, and community concerns anddevelop strategies to address them. Foster collaborative relationships with communityorganizations, government agencies, and key stakeholders. Support community-based policing initiatives andproblem-solving approaches to crime and social disorder. Participate in organizational planning and contribute to thedevelopment of operational and strategic initiatives. Promote member wellness, workplace respect, diversity, andinclusion. Support organizational accountability through incidentreview, debriefing, quality assurance, and continuous improvement processes. Core Competencies

Current police officer in good standing with a Canadianpolice service. Minimum ten (10) years of policing experience. Minimum three (3) years confirmed in the rank of Sergeant orequivalent supervisory rank. Demonstrated experience supervising personnel and leadingoperational policing activities. Extensive knowledge of criminal law, investigativeprocesses,
evidence handling, and major case management principles. Demonstrated experience managing high-risk incidents andcomplex investigations. Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to think strategically and make sound decisions indynamic environments. Eligible for appointment as a police officer in Alberta inaccordance with applicable legislation and regulatory requirements. Preferred Qualifications
Investigative experience involving major crimes, complexfiles, or specialized units. Formal incident command, emergency management, or criticalincident leadership training. Experience leading multiple teams, sections, or operationalunits. Advanced leadership, management, or supervisory training. Experience developing community partnerships and stakeholderrelationships. Experience mentoring and developing supervisors. Post-secondary education in policing, leadership, publicadministration, justice studies, or a related field. Schedule
This position may require a variety of work schedules,including days, evenings, nights, weekends, statutory holidays, and extendedoperational deployments as required. Important Dates
