NATURE AND SCOPE
Reportingto the CSW Team Lead or designate, the Community Support Worker plays a keyrole in fostering a safe, structured, and supportive environment for clients inrecovery. This position is responsible for promoting client engagement intherapeutic programming, supporting daily routines, facilitating recreation andwellness activities, and providing transportation to off-site appointments andrecovery-related events.
Workingin collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, the Community Support Workerhelps ensure continuity of care by supporting individualized treatment plans,modeling healthy coping strategies, and reinforcing program expectations. TheCSW contributes to the overall therapeutic milieu by maintaining professionalboundaries, promoting a culture of respect and accountability, and encouragingactive participation in recovery.
RESPONSIBILITIESAND DUTIES
RecreationFacilitation
- Plans,organizes, and facilitates a variety of structured and unstructuredrecreational and wellness-based activities, both on-site and in thecommunity, tailored to client needs and recovery goals.
- Leadsscheduled programming such as mindfulness sessions, wellness walks, andgroup recreational activities.
- Transportsclients to meetings, medical appointments, community programming, andrecovery-focused events.
- Supportsinternal and external event coordination, including logistics for movies,guest speakers, educational programming, and group outings.
ClientInteraction
- Providesfacility tours and orientation to new clients as part of their first day,ensuring they are familiar with the environment, expectations, and dailyroutine.
- Communicatesdaily schedules and upcoming program activities to clients.
- Engageswith clients through supportive conversation, validation, and activelistening (non-clinical); refers therapeutic concerns to clinical staff.
- Notifies thecounselor of urgent client concerns requiring immediate clinicalintervention.
- Reportsongoing observations, behaviours, and engagements to the clinical team tosupport continuity of care.
- Maintainstimely, qualified documentation of client interactions and notableobservations.
- Reinforcesorganization expectations and guidelines with clients, visitors, andfamilies in a respectful and trauma-informed manner.
- Promotes social connection and community amongclients by modeling healthy communication, boundaries, and interpersonalskills.
- Provides occasional support to intake andtransportation services as needed.
- Monitorsclient whereabouts and ensures adherence to program expectations andsafety protocols.
- Ensuresfacility safety by monitoring building access and, on weekends, signing invisitors in accordance with organization procedures.
- Conductsroutine room checks and facility walk-throughs to maintain a safe, clean,and secure environment.
- Completesaccurate and timely notes, incident reports, and shift documentationwithin the client file database.
- Maintainsclear, professional communication with the interdisciplinary care team.
- Accuratelyupdates communication logs and other documentation systems to support teamcontinuity.
- Performsadditional duties in support of program and client needs, as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
Grade twelve diploma (or equivalent).
Preference will be given to those with a SocialServices Certificate or Diploma.
Class five driver’s license with a cleardriver’s abstract.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Computer skills including MicrosoftOffice and Internet Explorer skills.
- Standard First Aid, CPR and SuicideIntervention Training completed within four months of hire.
A demonstrated interest in recovery coupledwith knowledge of the 12-step program or general recovery process.
Strong interpersonal, confidentiality andconflict resolution skills.
Must provide a valid driver’s license and a current driver’s abstract upon hire.
Will be required to obtain a Criminal record Check with Vulnerable sector check upon hiring and every 2 years of employment.
All employees are required to complete Naloxone training, along with other mandatory trainings, within theirfirst three months of employment
