Urban planning and engineering direction

Reporting to the Division Head—Engineering, the incumbent is responsible for municipal infrastructure and special projects. He or she plans, organizes, coordinates, and oversees activities and projects within his or her area of responsibility. In particular, he or she ensures the successful completion of projects related to municipal infrastructure, civil engineering, mobility, traffic flow, and traffic management. Taking a multidisciplinary approach, the incumbent works closely with teams in urban planning, engineering, public works, and other relevant disciplines to ensure integrated planning of initiatives across the region. He or she is also responsible for carrying out special and innovative projects, particularly in the areas of sustainable and active mobility.

Main responsibilities

The incumbent plans, directs, and oversees the section’s activities in these key areas:

Mobility, traffic flow, and traffic management: Analyzing issues related to traffic flow, signage, and road safety with the goal of improving traffic flow, safety, and shared use of public roads. Developing solutions that promote active, sustainable, and shared mobility.

Infrastructure and civil engineering: the design, repair, and improvement of municipal infrastructure such as streets, roadways, sidewalks, municipal networks, bicycle infrastructure, public spaces, and other civil engineering structures.

Special mobility and development projects:



responsibility for special and innovative projects assigned by management; conducting feasibility analyses; coordinating internal and external resources involved in the deployment and implementation of these projects; and evaluating their performance. The individual will be responsible for participating in the bidding process as well as managing contracts and external consultants. He or she will also monitor and control costs, manage contract changes, and identify and mitigate project-related risks.

Qualifications required Required qualifications:

Hold a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or in an engineering discipline relevant to the position’s responsibilities

Have 5 to 8 years of relevant experience in civil engineering, municipal infrastructure, mobility, traffic, project management, or a related field.

Demonstrate cooperative leadership, sound judgment, and the ability to structure projects, set priorities, resolve issues, and move projects forward.
