Job Title: Facility MaintenanceTechnician

Type: Full-time, Contract (Tuesday – Saturday)

Location: 3701 DanforthAvenue, Scarborough, ON M1N 2G2. This isa fully on-site position.

Salary: The salary for this position ranges from $45,000 to $50,000,depending on experience and qualifications. A comprehensive benefits package isalso included.

Variety - the Children's Charity (Ontario) is part of an internationalcharity that has been in operation since 1928. The charity began in Pittsburghand spread throughout the United States. The chapter in Ontario was the firstchapter outside the United States and is now one of the 5 Variety Chapters inCanada. It was founded in 1945, and the original mission of the charity was tobuild a school for boys with a disability who could not receive an education inthe mainstream school system. The school was called Variety Village.

Variety Village operated as a school until it became a centreof para-sport excellence.

Since the 1970s, Variety athletes and coaches haverepresented Canada at every summer Paralympic games. Currently, Variety Villageis a 170,000 square foot facility and operates as a fitness centre for thegeneral community as well as offering programs,



training and camps for childrenof all ages and abilities.

The Prospect:

Servingas a key operational support role, the Facility Maintenance Technician focuseson maintaining a high-standard member experience through hands-on facilityrepairs and supporting the Building Services Manager with facility maintenanceactivities. Responsibilities include conducting routine facility inspections,assisting with maintaining cleanliness standards alongside a third-partyjanitorial service provider, and supporting facility operations, specialevents, and day-to-day operational needs.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

General:

- Perform routine facility inspections and identifiesmaintenance, safety, and operational concerns requiring attention.
- Ensure exterior areas of the building aremaintained and free from hazards, including garbage, debris, snow, ice, andother obstacles.
- Perform general repairs and preventativemaintenance tasks, including repairs to dispensers, fixtures, equipment, andother facility items.
- Assist with monitoring basic building systems,including boilers, HVAC systems, pools, andother mechanical areas, and reportsany concerns or irregularities.
- Respond proactively to maintenance needs andaddresses issues upon discovery.
- Support cleanliness standards by working alongsidethe third-party janitorial service provider and ensuring maintenance-relatedconcerns are addressed.
- Ensure parking lots, walkways, and entrances aresafe and maintained during inclement weather.
- Perform basic maintenancetasks such as vacuuming air vents and diffusers.

Administrative:





- Complete and follows up on internal work orders.
- Maintain accurate records related to maintenanceactivities and completed tasks.
- Follow all health and safety legislation, policies, and procedures.
- Assist with obtaining quotes, tracking supplies, and supporting purchasing processes in accordance with Finance procedures.
- Maintain positive working relationships withcontractors, suppliers, and internal department.
- Perform other related duties to supportdepartmental and organizational needs.

Budgetary Responsibilities:

- Provide input regarding facility maintenance needs, supplies, and operational requirements.
- Work within established budget guidelines.

Education / Certifications:

- High schooldiploma or equivalent required.
- Post-secondaryeducation or training in building maintenance, facility operations, skilledtrades, or a related field is an asset.
- Pool Operator Certification (POC) isconsidered an asset.
- Additionalcertifications in areas such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or building systemsare considered an asset.

Knowledge and Experience:

- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in facilitymaintenance, building operations, or a related maintenance role.
- Experience performing general repairs, preventativemaintenance, and troubleshooting facility-related issues.
- Knowledge of basic building systems, includingHVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical equipment.
- Experience using a variety of maintenance tools, equipment, and supplies.
- Experience responding to work orders andprioritizing maintenance requests.
- Knowledge of workplace health and safety practices and procedures.
- Experience working in a recreation, fitness,community, or high-traffic facility environment is an asset.
- Experience working with contractors, serviceproviders, and external vendors is an asset.

Skills and Competencies:

- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability totroubleshoot and resolve basic maintenance issues.
- Proactive approach with solid attention to detailand the ability to identify facility needs before they become larger issues.
- Strong organizational skills and ability toprioritize multiple tasks in a quick-paced environment.
- Ability to work independently while alsocollaborating effectively with internal teams.
- Strong inclusive customer service skills,communicating patiently with members of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities toensure a safe and welcoming facility workplace.
- Ability to follow established procedures, completedocumentation, and maintain accurate work records.
