Location: Kingston General Hospital Site In accordance with Article 9.05, where the previous incumbent returns to this position within the thirty (30) day trial period this position shall be deemed not vacant and the posting will be cancelled. PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Under direction, performs assigned maintenance and construction duties throughout the hospital facilities, according to policies, procedures, legislated codes and regulations, to support a functional, reliable, safe and comfortable health care environment.
Within this role the employee is accountable for contributing to the delivery of the Kingston General Hospital strategy. As an employee, one must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for actively promoting and supporting patient and family centered engagement and care in all we do.
PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs duties consistent with those of Plumber under the Trades Qualification and Apprenticeship Act and as pertains to a hospital environment. Maintains and repairs building systems as assigned, such as: water, steam, heating, ventilation, air conditioning except refrigerant systems, water treatment for cooling and heating systems, automated building systems, medical gas systems, pumps, valves, packings, steam systems. User Knowledge of Building Automations system.
- Maintains and repairs hospital equipment as assigned such as: valves, pumps, converters, cooling towers, radiators, steam traps, autoclaves, hydroclave, medical gas fittings, plumbing fixtures, kitchen equipment & HVAC systems.
- Plans, prepares layouts, reports material and technical needs for own work assignments. Submits for approval, estimates of material, labor, feasibility of repairs or projects, and purchase requests.
- Interfaces with management and staff throughout the hospital, contractors and suppliers to expedite the resolution and follow-up of facility needs.
- Performs minor project work, renovations, equipment installation and testing, as required.
- Participates in the preventive maintenance programs, work schedules, and maintains records as required.
- Assists other personnel as required or may be called on to do other duties as required by the Maintenance Department. Responds to emergency call-ins, stand-by, shift rotation and overtime, as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Grade 12 diploma (Technical program)
- Current Ontario Certificate of Qualification as Plumber. (5 year apprenticeship – 2 year educational component)
- 3-5 years experience in the maintenance and repair of complex building systems and equipment.
- Ability to demonstrate excellent trouble shooting and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to attend work regularly.
- Satisfactory criminal reference check and vulnerable sector search required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The applicant must be able to meet the physical demands of this position.
