CMHA Kelowna & District is hiring a full time, 12-month term Family Navigator to join the Foundry Kelowna Team. This position offers 37.5 hours per week, with a typical work week of Monday –Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm with Thursday variations of 9am-5pm or 11am-7pm based onprogram need.
WHO IS A FAMILY NAVIGATOR? The Family Navigator provides essential navigation support and services to parents, caregivers, and families of children, youth, or dependent young adults experiencing mental health and/or substance use issues. This role involves one-on-one and group work aimed at identifying community resources and building the skills, knowledge, and connections necessary for effective caregiving.
WHAT DOES A FAMILY NAVIGATOR DO?
Meet with parents and family caregivers at Foundry Kelowna and within the community
Respond to caregiver inquiries via phone, providing guidance in navigating available services and supports for both youth and families
Conduct caregiver assessments to identify individual/family needs and set actionable goals
Identify and recommend relevant social, economic, recreational, and educational resources within the community
Advocate for participants by problem-solving and assisting them in accessing community resources and navigating complex systems
Maintain accurate records and documentation, including case files, progress reports, statistics, and daily logs
Facilitate workshops and group sessions for parents and caregivers to promote skill development and resource awareness
Work as part of a multi-disciplinary integrated team, contributing to joint planning and collaboration to ensure client-centered care and seamless service delivery
Performs other related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
Diploma in Community,
Social or Human Services or related field required
Minimum 2 years’recent and relevant experience working with families
Reliable vehicle and the ability to travel within the community to meet with clients and participate in workshops on a frequent basis
Valid Class 5 BC driver’s license
Criminal Record Check clearance in the Vulnerable Sector
Certificates in FirstAid, CPR and Naloxone considered an asset
Strong communications skills, both verbal and written, to engage effectively with caregivers and families
Ability to establish and maintain rapport with diverse family dynamics
Capacity to work independently while also collaborating effectively within a team setting
Ability to maintain consistent professional boundaries
Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
Proficiency in maintaining accurate documentation and record-keeping, including experience using case management systems
Familiarity with community resources and services related to mental health and substance misuse
Strong attention todetail and the ability to organize and prioritize tasksefficiently
Ability to analyze situations,recognize changes in caregiver and family dynamics, and resolve conflictseffectively.
Competence in problem-solving and critical thinking to address complex needs of families.
Ability to be regularly exposed to individuals who are struggling with and/or recovering from trauma, drug/alcohol use, homelessness,
mental health challenges and/or mental illness
