The University of British Columbia (UBC) is inviting applications for a Professor in Bacteriophage Biology & Evolution at its Vancouver campus in Canada. The position is a joint appointment between the Department of Microbiology & Immunology and the Michael Smith Laboratories.
The successful candidate will lead an innovative, externally funded research program focused on bacteriophage biology, bacteria-phage interactions, microbial evolution, bacterial immunity, and antimicrobial resistance.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Develop an innovative and internationally competitive research program.
- Obtain external research funding.
- Supervise graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in microbiology.
- Establish interdisciplinary collaborations within UBC.
- Contribute to departmental, institutional and scientific service.
- Support an inclusive and welcoming research and learning setting.
- Participate in the broader academic and scientific community.
Qualifications & Skills Required
Applicants must have:
- A PhD in a relevant field.
- Postdoctoral research experience.
- A strong record of research achievements.
- Significant publications in bacteriophage biology, microbial evolution, microbiology or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated research excellence.
- The ability to develop an externally funded and internationally competitive research program.
- Experience or potential in graduate and undergraduate teaching.
- A strong commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
