About Us:

The Northern Women’s Centre is located on the traditional and unceded territory of the Lheidli Tenneh First Nations, colonially known as Prince George.

The Northern Women’s Centre is a feminist non-profit operating in Prince George for the last 32 years. We operate as a safe space that is open 24 hours a day for all self-identifying women. Located on the UNBC campus in Prince George, the Northern Women’s Centre serves the UNBC and Prince George community alike.

About the Position:

We are currently seeking a dedicated, passionate and reliable individual to join us as a part-time temporary program coordinator.

What you will do:

Program Delivery and Coordination

- Welcoming all women who come to the Centre
- Maintaining a 24-hour safe space for self-identifying women
- Responding to women in need and/or crisis (in person, by email, and by phone)
- Assist with designing and executing the annual campaigns, workshops and events of the Northern Women’s Centre
- Guide clients through support, advocacy, accompaniment or referrals to community resources.
- Represent the organization at public meetings, events and networking panels
- Participate in orientation sessions for new students (Sept and Jan)
- Participate in community events, campaigns and programs as required.

Administrative:

- Act as a point of contact for volunteers, clients and external stakeholders
- Assist with recruitment, training, scheduling and task management of volunteers and staff.
- Manage and assist with daily operations of the centre
- Assist with bookkeeping, fundraising and grant writing.
- Maintain accurate records, client notes, and attendance files.
- Collect mail from the mail room, retrieving phone messages each morning; respond to all correspondence and general inquiries.
- Organize, set the agenda, and facilitate monthly Collective meetings (with volunteer or practicum students writing minutes, depending on availability); distribute minutes.
- Prepare staff report for Board meetings, assisting with the setting of the agenda for Board meetings.





Additional Information:

- This is a part-time position - 15 hours a week for a year (possibility of extension).
- Fair amount of flexibility to design your schedule.
- This is a non-unionized position.
- This position is supported by a grant from the City of Prince George
- The NWC values diversity; preference will be given to self-identifying women

You are a good fit for a job if you are/possess:

- A Bachelor's Degree (completed or in progress) in Human or Social Services or any relevant field.
- At least six months of relevant experience.
- An equivalent combination of education, experience and training may be considered.
- A valid BC driver’s license with availability of a personal vehicle (considered an asset but not required).
- A criminal check with a vulnerable sector check (within 3 months of commencement of the job).
- An organized, punctual and dedicated individual with the desire to unlearn and learn.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaborate with a team.

About the work workplace:

The Northern Women’s Centre is located on the Prince George Campus of the University of Northern British Columbia. The space is wheelchair accessible. There is direct access by two city buses and by vehicle. Pay Park is in effect, and parking meters are located at all the entrances at UNBC. Reasonable accommodations can be provided when requested.
