Parklane Mechanical Acoustics

Burlington

Position Summary The successful candidate may be appointed as Project Engineering Scientist, Applied Engineering Scientist, Project Engineer, Associate Project Engineer, or Principal Project Engineer—Acoustics, commensurate with qualifications, experience, demonstrated technical capability, and professional licensure.

Parklane is seeking a technically passionate professional to join the Project & Services Engineering (P&SE;) group and contribute to environmental-noise and noise-control projects. Depending on experience, the role may include acoustical assessments, engineering calculations, modelling, field measurements, technical reporting, conceptual solution development, and evaluation of practical mitigation measures.

The successful candidate will collaborate across Engineering, Marketing & Sales, Project Management, Production, and other organizational groups to develop and deliver solutions that balance acoustical performance with aerodynamic, thermal, structural, fabrication, installation, and commercial considerations.

A central purpose of this role is to strengthen Parklane’s technical culture through the open sharing of knowledge, collaborative problem-solving, mentorship, and the preservation and continued development of acoustical expertise. More experienced candidates will be expected to help colleagues build confidence, technical judgement, and practical capability without requiring formal management responsibility.

The successful candidate may also contribute to research and development, testing, internal methodologies, technical reference materials, and Parklane’s involvement in advancing industry standards, guidelines, and codes.

Key Responsibilities The following list includes foundational responsibilities. And, as with every role at Parklane, the successful candidate will appreciate a great breadth of challenges in working with all departments and through many stages of each of our projects.

- Foster Parklane’s technical culture by openly sharing knowledge, mentoring colleagues, explaining underlying principles, and helping others develop confidence, judgement, and practical acoustical capability.
- Review and interpret project-based environmental-noise assessments, acoustical calculations, modelling, measurements,

technical evaluations, and conceptual noise-control studies.
- Interpret project requirements, applicable criteria, standards, guidelines, regulations, and jurisdictional noise limits.
- Develop practical noise-control strategies involving silencers, barriers, enclosures, acoustic panels, louvers, vibration control, equipment modifications, and operational measures.
- Evaluate acoustical solutions in consideration of airflow, thermal performance, structural requirements, fabrication, installation, maintenance, and cost.
- Prepare and review technical reports, calculations, specifications, proposals, submittals, and engineering recommendations.
- Support complex investigations, troubleshooting, performance validation, and interdisciplinary coordination with Parklane’s engineering, production, project, and product-development groups.
- Contribute to internal methodologies, reference materials, lessons learned, training, testing, research, standards activities, and the continued development of Parklane’s acoustical practice.

Where professionally licensed and authorized, assume professional engineering responsibility for assigned work.

Qualifications

- Degree in Engineering, Engineering Physics, Physics, Acoustics, or a closely related technical discipline.
- Progressively responsible experience in environmental acoustics, industrial noise, mechanical-system noise, or applied noise-control work.
- Demonstrated experience with project-based technical work involving several of the following:
- environmental-noise assessment;
- source characterization;
- sound propagation and prediction;
- field measurements;
- spectral or tonal analysis;
- technical reporting;
- regulatory or criteria-based evaluation; and
- development of noise-control recommendations.
- Robust understanding of acoustical fundamentals, including sound pressure, sound power,

frequency content, attenuation, insertion loss, transmission loss, barriers, silencers, enclosures, vibration, and related system interactions.
- Experience translating acoustical findings into practical, technically defensible, and constructible noise-control solutions.
- Familiarity with applicable acoustical standards, guidelines, regulations, prediction methods, measurement practices, and technical software.
- Strong analytical, technical-writing, communication, and multidisciplinary coordination skills.
- Ability to explain complex acoustical principles clearly and contribute positively to the development of others.
- Demonstrated technical judgement, professionalism, accountability, and commitment to continued development.

Working Conditions

- Primarily office-based with occasional site visits and client meetings.
- Use hands to operate computer and various measuring devices.
- Standard working hours with flexibility for project demands.
- Frequently required to sit for extended periods of time.
- Able to climb stairs and service ladders.
