Nature & Scope Lead with Purpose! We are looking for a passionate and organized Team Lead to oversee our inclusive before- and after-school program for children ages 5–12. In this dynamic role, you will lead and support a team of staff and volunteers, delivering engaging indoor and outdoor programming while ensuring a secure, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all children and families.
You will guide child-centered programming, provide active supervision, support positive behaviour and conflict resolution, and build strong relationships with children, families, and community partners. Additional responsibilities include preparing nutritious snacks, maintaining a clean and professional program space, and managing administrative tasks such as payroll and budget tracking.
Major Responsibilities
Conduct onboarding, orientation, and training for new team members
Provide ongoing coaching, mentorship, and performance feedback with the support and guidance of the Supervisor/Manager, while proactively addressing performance concerns through clear documentation and improvement plans, and fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Oversee and coach School Age Leaders in designing and delivering engaging programs while ensuring alignment with organizational standards, legislative requirements, and established curriculum.
Build and maintain strong relationships with partners, participants, and families to support service excellence and community engagement
Act as an organizational ambassador by promoting initiatives, supporting fundraising efforts, and strengthening the organization’s presence in the community
Monitor staffing levels to ensure compliance with staff-to-child ratios, with the expectation of stepping into ratio as required to support program operations
Maintain compliance with all policies, procedures, and Child Care Licensing requirements, serving as the designated Manager on License and working collaboratively with licensing officers to address inquiries and resolve any compliance concerns
Attend and actively participate in all mandatory meetings (monthly, quarterly, and annual), as well as team meetings, workshops, and ongoing professional development activities
Manage program budgets by monitoring expenses and purchasing materials and supplies within approved limits, while proactively communicating any variances to the Supervisor
Design or implement individualized care plans while fostering an inclusive environment that supports each child’s unique strengths and[DT1] areas for growth
Qualification
Bring at least 1 year of experience leading or supporting teams, ideally in childcare, recreation, or community-based programs
Enjoy coaching and developing others, and are passionate about helping teams succeed
Have a strong understanding of (or willingness to learn) childcare licensing requirements and program compliance
Are organized, adaptable, and able to effectively manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment
Communicate confidently and build positive relationships with children, families, and community partners
Are committed to creating inclusive, welcoming environments where every child feels they belong
Take initiative, demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, and approach challenges with a positive mindset
Demonstrate strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and the ability to learn new software.
Must be at least 19 years of age.
Emergency First Aid & CPR certification (or willingness to obtain within 30 days of hire is required).
Completion of 20 hours of training in Child Development, Child Guidance, and/or Nutrition is required; YMCA BC offers complimentary training to support this requirement
Successful candidate will be required to provide 3 satisfactory references
Successful candidates will be required to provide or obtain, prior to starting, a current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search.
