About The VEX U Robotics Competition is an interdisciplinary international engineering challenge run by VEX Robotics Inc. and the Robotics Education & Competition Foundation (RECF). As the highest tier of VEX Competitions, university students design, fabricate, and program multiple autonomous robots to execute precise object manipulation, high-speed visual navigation, and robust real-time control.

In the Electrical Division, we design custom 4-layer PCBs, high-efficiency power supplies, sensor daughterboards, and high-speed communication buses to power our AI compute engines and autonomous drivetrains. The season culminates in April when the top university teams from around the world gather to compete at the VEX Robotics World Championship!

We are recruiting passionate Electrical Project Leads to guide our subteams, mentor current members, and drive the design of our next-generation robot electronics!

As an Electrical Project Lead, you will lead weekly subteam working sessions, oversee KiCad schematic capture and PCB routing, run hands-on hardware bring-up, and collaborate directly with Mechanical and Software leads.





We have leadership openings across 3 specialized subteams:

- Power Systems Lead: Oversee 5V/3.3V switching buck regulators, thermal cooling, battery reverse polarity protection, and live I2C power monitoring.
- QIO & Sensors Lead: Lead the design of separate QIO encoder daughterboard pods, hardware SPI signal routing, 9-DOF IMUs, and TVS ESD static protection.
- Brain & Communications Lead: Direct our RS-485 daisy chain network, CAN-FD dual-bus research, NVIDIA Jetson AI integration, and robot wire harness standards.

Qualifications

Prior experience with KiCad, circuit design, or hands-on electronics is preferred. We are seeking enthusiastic leaders who are excited to take ownership of a major robot subsystem, run design reviews, and mentor general members throughout the season!
