Responsibilities

- Prepare estimates of labour and/or material costs
- Prepare pre‑qualification submissions to present clients
- Read blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine work requirements
- Provide economic feasibility studies and preliminary estimates for proposed projects
- Create and submit estimate reports, quote sheets and bid forms
- Advise on tendering procedures
- Analyze tenders and recommend awards
- Preparation of construction related cost estimates, cost plans, and cost strategies
- Change order reviews and valuations of work in progress and bid analyses
- Prepares work to be estimated by gathering proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents
- Identifies labour, material, and time requirements by studying proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents
- Computes costs by analyzing labour, material, and time requirements
- Preparation of studies and plans on value engineering, life cycle costing, and sustainable practices
- Resolves discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information
- Presents prepared estimate by assembling and displaying numerical and descriptive information
- Maintains cost data base by entering and backing up data
- Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing,



and summarizing information and trends

Credentials

Membership in the Canadian Institute of Quantity Surveyors

Experience And Specialization

Computer and technology knowledge: MS Excel

Type of experience: Civil, Electricity - construction, Mechanical construction

Project size estimating experience: $500,001 - $1,500,000

Area of specialization: Civil engineering

Additional Requirements

Minimum education of College in Civil Engineering required; Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering preferred; Minimum of 3+ years of related experience required; Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing technical publications; Experience and specialty in electrical and mechanical cost strategies; Cost control in the commercial/institutional/Industrial sector concentrating on vertical construction; Experience with conceptual and detailed measurement / pricing; Experience in CMGC / GCCM process; Experience with estimating software systems, onscreen takeoff software and BIM
