Position Summary The Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) provides professional mental health counselling and emotional support to clients accessing Muslim Food Bank & Community Services Society’s programs and services. The counsellor will work with individuals experiencing a range of emotional, psychological, and psychosocial concerns while providing culturally sensitive, client-centred, and trauma-informed care.

The ideal candidate is compassionate, professional, culturally responsive, and able to establish strong therapeutic relationships with clients from diverse backgrounds. The position is hybrid and contract-based, with compensation provided on a per-session basis.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Counselling

- Provide individual counselling sessions to clients experiencing a range of mental health, emotional, and psychosocial concerns.
- Conduct initial assessments to understand clients’ presenting concerns, needs, goals, and support requirements.
- Develop appropriate counselling goals and treatment plans in collaboration with clients.
- Provide culturally sensitive and trauma-informed counselling services.
- Support clients with concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, relationship challenges, family concerns, emotional regulation, and life transitions.
- Utilize appropriate evidence-based counselling approaches and therapeutic techniques based on client needs.
- Monitor client progress and adjust counselling approaches as appropriate.
- Maintain professional boundaries and adhere to ethical standards throughout the counselling relationship.
- Identify clients who may require additional or specialized mental health services and provide appropriate referrals when necessary.
- Respond appropriately to situations involving risk, crisis, or safety concerns in accordance with professional standards and organizational procedures.

Client Support & Documentation

- Maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date client records and counselling documentation.




- Document counselling sessions and relevant client information in accordance with professional and organizational requirements.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and protect sensitive client information.
- Communicate with MFBCS staff and relevant program teams when coordination of client services is required, while maintaining appropriate client confidentiality.
- Participate in case discussions, team meetings, and program planning as required.
- Provide culturally appropriate mental health resources and information to clients when appropriate.
- Support the development or delivery of mental health workshops, educational sessions, or community resources when required.
- Maintain accurate records of completed counselling sessions for administrative and payment purposes.
- Perform other counselling and client-support duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

- Master’s degree in Counselling, Clinical Counselling, Psychology, or a related mental health field.
- Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) designation or eligibility for registration with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC).

Experience

- Previous professional experience providing individual counselling services.
- Experience working with individuals from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, and community backgrounds.
- Experience providing trauma-informed and culturally responsive counselling is preferred.
- Experience working within a non-profit, community services, healthcare, or social services environment is considered an asset.

Skills & Competencies

- Fluency in Arabic is required,



with the ability to provide counselling services professionally in Arabic.
- Solid counselling, active listening, and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong understanding of mental health concerns and appropriate counselling practices.
- Ability to establish trust and rapport with clients while maintaining professional boundaries.
- Strong cultural awareness and sensitivity.
- Ability to work with clients in a compassionate, non-judgmental, and client-centred manner.
- Strong assessment, documentation, and case management skills.
- Ability to recognize and appropriately respond to client risk and crisis situations.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with MFBCS staff and program teams.
- Commitment to professional ethics, confidentiality, and client privacy.
- Proficiency with electronic documentation and virtual counselling platforms.

Working Conditions

- Contract-based position.
- Hybrid work arrangement, with counselling services provided both virtually and in person as required.
- Compensation is provided on a per-session basis.
- Session schedule will be coordinated based on client needs and counsellor availability.
- Counsellor must maintain all professional registration, licensing, insurance, and other requirements applicable to their practice.
- Occasional participation in meetings, workshops, or community initiatives may be required.
