Hours Full Time, Normal Working Hours 35 hours per week
Other General office setting. Some travel throughout the City of Kawartha Lakes may be necessary in accordance with job requirements.
- Review and prepare responses on documents received by regulators on compliance issues related to City landfill operations
- Maintain data bases related to information and track analytical results associated with compliance requirements including the coordination and support of ongoing and new waste diversion activities
- Assist with the development and amendment of Standard Operating Procedures and By-Laws relating to waste management
- Inspect landfill sites both open and closed to ensure they are in compliance with all pertinent approvals and, regulation and legislation
- Assist with training, advising and guiding other departmental staff in performance of tasks and duties relating to monitoring activity and compliance auditing
- Prepare quotes and other requests for services related to annual reports and other documents or studies
- Act as staff resource person to landfill public participation committees
- Assist in preparation of approval or amendment applications
- Receive and coordinate the response to applications
- Provide input to the development of the divisional budget
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Skills/Education Required
- Post-secondary diploma in Environmental Technology or a related field
- Minimum 5 years of related progressive experience, preferably in a municipal environment
- Must have or be eligible for the OACETT designation (Ontario Association of Certified Technicians and Technologists)
- Experience in landfill operations and compliance management and auditing services
- Demonstrated professional and ethical responsibility to protect privacy, use confidential information appropriately, treat sensitive situations with appropriate degree of tact and discretion
- Demonstrated customer-service and interpersonal skills at a level to develop and to maintain cooperative/collaborative working relationships both within and outside the organization
- Excellent time-management skills with the ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines, and the ability to deal with multiple demands
- Excellent written communication skills with attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent organizational and administrative skills with the ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Ability to demonstrate initiative consistently with commitment to quality improvement, sharing process improvement initiatives with management
- Demonstrated ability to understand and abide by municipal policies and procedures
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office, the internet, and any other related software
- Possess and maintain a valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s Licence
- Upon a conditional offer of employment, a Criminal Record Check will be required
