Reports To: Assistant Vice President for Recruitment
Primary Objective: As a key member of the admissions team, the Admission Counselor is responsible for the development and execution of a results-driven recruitment strategy, emphasizing active territory management, relationship building, and market outreach to maximize enrollment of a thriving and successful first-year class at Lawrence University. The role requires a proactive approach to building relationships, achieving enrollment goals, and enhancing the university’s reputation. The successful candidate will employ a data-informed strategy to identify and convert high-potential candidates while contributing to Lawrence’s mission of academic excellence and community.
Key Responsibilities:
Territory Management:
- Develop and execute a comprehensive recruitment plan for an assigned geographic territory, including in-person and virtual school visits, college fairs, counselor events, and direct student outreach.
- Engage alumni and other stakeholders to expand Lawrence University’s reach and impact within the territory.
- Proactively strategize and analyze external markets to identify opportunities for enrollment growth.
Communications:
- Advise and counsel prospective students and families about Lawrence University’s academic and co-curricular opportunities, as well as the admissions, financial aid, and enrollment processes.
- Act as the primary point of contact for prospective students within the region. Organize high school visits, college fairs, and recruitment events to maximize outreach.
- Identify partnerships with school counselors, independent advisors, and college access organizations, driving sustained applicant interest.
Application Review:
- Conduct holistic evaluations of applications, ensuring alignment with institutional priorities and goals.
- Provide timely and thoughtful feedback to support admissions decisions.
Leadership and Office Contribution:
- Take on leadership responsibilities within the admissions office, leveraging personal strengths to address operational priorities as assigned by the Assistant Vice President for Recruitment
- Actively participate in workgroups and cross-functional projects to enhance recruitment strategies and outcomes.
- Spearhead independent admission projects, utilizing data-driven insights to optimize recruitment efforts and achieve measurable results.
Project, Collaboration and Events
- Collaborate with admissions colleagues, faculty, staff, current students, and alumni to achieve recruitment goals. Build strong connections with prospective students, families, school counselors, and independent advisors from diverse backgrounds.
- Strategically identify opportunities to showcase Lawrence’s value proposition at local and regional events, strategically positioning the university as the premier choice for prospective students.
Reporting and Metrics:
- Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to recruitment and enrollment goals.
- Using data, plan for of evolving conditions in primary recruiting market and adjust work approach to maintain efficacy.
- Continually assess evolving priorities, taking ownership of diverse responsibilities to support overall enrollment objectives.

- Exercise independent judgment, ensuring ethical and efficient use of university resources.

- Perform other duties as assigned to support the office, team and university enrollment goals.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Entry level work experience considered.
- Skills:
- Exceptional communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Proficiency with database systems and Excel; experience with Slate or similar CRM tools preferred.
- Characteristics:
- Results-driven mindset with demonstrated accountability for meeting performance goals.

- Commitment to the ideals of a liberal arts education.
- Flexibility: Willingness to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends. Travel required
- Licensing: Valid driver’s license required.
