About the Role

The Global Process Safety Engineer is a key role within the Global Engineering team, responsible for driving process and equipment safety across McCain’s manufacturing network and capital investment portfolio. The role provides technical expertise, risk‑based guidance and global standards that help ensure assets are designed, built and commissioned right—and that operational sites continue to perform safely throughout their lifecycle. Working alongside Regional Engineering, Project Management, Health & Safety and Manufacturing teams, the role reduces severe incident and fatality potential, supports consistent deployment of safety standards across facilities, and acts as a trusted technical partner across McCain’s global network.

What You’ll Be Doing

Process Safety and Risk Management

- Support implementation and continuous improvement of global process and equipment safety programs
- Provide technical guidance and subject‑matter support to site and project teams
- Assist in hazard identification, evaluation, and mitigation to reduce severe incident and fatality potential
- Apply the global risk ranking framework to assess incident potential and ensure consistency
- Support integration of process safety into capital projects, MOC, and operational risk assessments

Standards, Governance, and Program Execution

- Support development and maintenance of global process and equipment safety standards and procedures
- Assist in consistent deployment of standards across facilities
- Participate in governance activities, audits, and program verification
- Track trends and identify opportunities for safety improvement

Process Safety Management (PSM) and Refrigeration Safety

- Support PSM and related risk management program implementation across facilities
- Provide technical support for high‑hazard systems, including ammonia and industrial refrigeration systems
- Support sites with Key Elements of Refrigeration and the development and follow‑through of corrective action plans
- Assist in implementing mechanical integrity, operating procedures, PHAs, incident investigations, and MOC processes

Risk Assessment and Hazard Analysis

- Facilitate or support PHAs, HAZOPs, JHAs, and equipment hazard reviews
- Work with site and project teams to identify control measures
- Support corrective action follow‑up from assessments and audits

Machine and Equipment Safety

- Support implementation of global machine safety standards




- Participate in machine safety assessments and safeguarding reviews
- Provide technical support for guarding and other critical safety features
- Ensure alignment with applicable standards and regulatory requirements

Thermal Process

- Support safety programs related to thermal processing
- Assist in identifying and mitigating hazards associated with fuel systems, oil management and protective designs
- Support the global safety team with ongoing fryer fire risk assessments and design improvements to reduce risk

Pressure Systems and Mechanical Integrity

- Support process safety and compliance activities for boilers, pressure vessels, and related systems
- Assist in inspections, maintenance, and operational requirements
- Provide support for pressure relief device management and integrity verification

Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and Controls Safety

- Support SIS and functional safety practices
- Participate in safety reviews, protection layer assessments, LOPA, and risk evaluations

Chemical and CIP Safety

- Support chemical hazard management, automated chemical dosing, and CIP system safety
- Assist in containment, handling, and emergency response planning
- Support safe operational and maintenance practices

Training and Capability Building

- Support development and delivery of technical training programs
- Provide coaching and technical guidance to site teams
- Contribute to tools and resources that build global capability

What You’ll Need To Be Successful

Education

- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or related)

Experience

- 5–10 years in process safety, equipment safety, manufacturing engineering, asset integrity, or operational risk management
- Experience in food manufacturing, frozen food processing, CPG, industrial manufacturing, chemicals, or other high‑hazard environments
- Experience implementing or supporting process safety and equipment safety programs
- Experience with high‑risk systems: refrigeration, pressure systems, machine safety, electrical safety, thermal processing, chemical handling
- Experience facilitating risk assessments, PHAs, HAZOPs, hazard reviews, and safety improvement initiatives across multiple sites

Technical Knowledge

- Process Safety Management (PSM)




- Risk assessment methodologies (PHA, HAZOP, JHA, task‑based)
- Mechanical Integrity principles
- Management of Change (MOC)
- Machine safeguarding and equipment safety
- Arc flash and electrical safety
- Pressure systems and relief protection
- Industrial refrigeration systems (ammonia)
- SIS / functional safety concepts
- Chemical hazard management and CIP systems
- ISO, ANSI, CSA, OSHA, IEC 61511, and regional standards

Travel Requirement

- Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed to support sites, audits, assessments, and project work

Compensation Package

$102,700.00 – $137,000.00 CAD annually + bonus eligibility (target compensation range)
