Senior Advisor, AI Agent Strategy & Development Standards

Location: Calgary, Alberta Employment Type: Full Time - Permanent Salary Range: SP6, $164,475 - $193,500 per year. The final compensation for this position will be determined based on individual factors, including education, qualifications, experience, and internal equity. The Opportunity

Artificial intelligence (AI) agents are multiplying across the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER), and we need the person who decides how they should be built. As our Senior Advisor, AI Agent Strategy & Development Standards, you will own the enterprise strategy for AI agents: which agent patterns and platforms are sanctioned for which uses, the standards under which agents are designed and evaluated, and the criteria that promote a citizen-built agent to enterprise-supported use. Industry practice for multi-agent development and orchestration is not yet established; you will set the AER's position as the field changes. This is a hands-on strategy and advisory role on a new Digital Enablement and Artificial Intelligence team. You will keep deep, hands-on currency across Microsoft Copilot Studio and the Power Platform, along with OpenAI Codex and Anthropic Claude Code, so your standards are validated in practice rather than on paper. If you want to shape how an entire regulator builds with AI agents, on problems the industry has not solved yet, this is that opportunity. What your day-to-day will look like:

Own and set the enterprise strategy for AI agents at the AER, deciding which agent patterns and platforms are sanctioned for which uses, defining the reference patterns for agent and multi-agent design, and setting the promotion criteria that move an agent from citizen-built to enterprise-supported. Define the development standards for AI agents,

including standards for multi-agent development and orchestration, and the evaluation and oversight standards an agent must meet before promotion, including human-in-the-loop requirements and how agent behavior is observed in production. Define the agent inventory metadata that feeds the AI Register, and help define the AI development standards and guardrails for the current regulatory platform, working with the delivery teams that build it. Set the methodology for citizen development, including a maker program with transparent rules of engagement, and design the Hackathon and Promptathon delivery method, run through the maker community and with the training group, handing steady-state delivery to the Product Managers and the delivery and operations teams as the model matures. Evaluate agent development platforms for fit, including Microsoft Copilot Studio and the Power Platform together with OpenAI Codex and Anthropic Claude Code, maintaining hands-on currency to validate that the standards work in practice and staying aligned with the Microsoft AI roadmap. Design the adoption and training materials that build agent development skill across the business, lead the maker community of practice, and report on the agent strategy and posture to the Director and the AI Steering Committee. What we're looking for in you:

A Bachelor's degree in Business, Public Administration, Environmental Science, Engineering, Information Technology,

or a related field. Post-graduate education in AI, data management, or digital transformation is considered an asset. 10+ years of experience in software development and technology strategy, including experience setting technical standards and deep, hands-on expertise in Microsoft 365 Copilot, Copilot Studio, and the Power Platform, with a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, software engineering, or a related discipline. Demonstrated ability to set strategy and standards in areas where industry practice is not yet established, including agent evaluation and oversight methods such as human-in-the-loop review. Familiarity with agent development tools beyond Microsoft, including OpenAI Codex and Anthropic Claude Code, and the judgment to advise on the right tool for a build. Proven ability to design citizen development programs that produce working results, with excellent communication and change management skills and a hands-on, business-facing style. Microsoft Power Platform or Copilot certifications (for example, PL-900, PL-200, or PL-600), Prosci Change Management certification, Microsoft Certified Trainer, or MVP recognition are assets, as is experience in the energy industry or a regulated environment. Additional Information:

All applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada at the time of application. Should an individual with the required qualifications not be available, applicants with closely related qualifications may be considered. As a result, the position may be redesigned and/or reclassified. This position will be subject to pre-employment background screening, including a criminal record check. If you need accommodation during any stage of the recrui
