Community Liaison Worker – Indigenous Education Team

COMPENSATION: Educational Assistant 1 Payband $31.71 to $37.90
HOURS: 7.0 hours per day
JOB SUMMARY:
The Community Liaison Worker (CLW) facilitates community-based programming that engages families, caregivers, volunteers,
and community partners across LRSD. The role supports Indigenous, newcomer, and diverse community groups through mentorship initiatives, volunteer development, land-based learning opportunities, and the delivery of regular programming at two divisional community sites. The CLW builds partnerships that enhance access to resources, strengthen community connections, and create inclusive opportunities for participation, learning, and wellbeing.
QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE):
- Completion of post-secondary education in a related field. Preference will be given to those who have experience working
with children with physical, cognitive and /or behavioural challenges OR an equivalent combination of post-secondary education training and experience.
- Demonstrated experience working with community groups, government and non-profit agencies and organizations.
- Demonstrated experience working with and supporting Newcomer families and students.
- Demonstrated experience working with Indigenous communities, families, and students.
- Demonstrated knowledge of traditional Indigenous teachings.
- Demonstrated understanding and appreciation of a variety of cultures.
- Demonstrated ability to transport students/families for access to community supports.
- Demonstrated knowledge of community and available resource organizations.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively with the school team.
- Demonstrated ability to work with Elders and Knowledge Carriers.
- Ability to work with a team to help coordinate and organize divisional initiatives (Powwow Club,
Fresh Food Boxes,
Breakfast and Beading, Footsteps).
- Must possess an understanding of cross-cultural and Indigenous issues and perspectives.
- Positive planning and organizational skills are required.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills are required.
- Ability to be responsive to the immediate school community needs.
- Ability to source and write funding grants.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Search.
- Clear report from the Child Abuse Registry.
- Review and comply with Divisional policies and guidelines.
- Continued employment is subject to maintaining legal eligibility to work in Canada.
- Valid Manitoba Driver’s License, current Driver’s Abstract, and access to a reliable vehicle is required.
- First Aid and CPR training completed within the probationary period (90 working days).
- Food handlers certificate completed within probationary period (90 days).
- Respect In School or equivalent training is required.
