Position Overview

Under the general supervision of the Program Manager, Subspecialty Critical Care, and the direction of the Registered Respiratory Therapist, while demonstrating a commitment to the Mission, Values and Management Philosophy of Grace Hospital. The Respiratory Therapy Assistant – Student is responsible for assisting the Respiratory Therapist in a non-clinical fashion to provide respiratory care to patients at Grace Hospital.

Experience

- Previous related experience working with Respiratory Therapy Equipment and/or in the general field of respiratory therapy preferred.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

- Manitoba High School diploma (or equivalent).




- Currently enrolled as a 2nd or 3rd year student and in good standing in an accredited Respiratory Therapy Education Program (Preference will be given to students of the Max Rady Faculty of Health Science: Respiratory Therapy Program students).

SPECIAL TRAINING/SKILLS:

- On-the-job training (up to 6 months) is provided by the Respiratory Therapy Department.

- Basic computer and keyboarding skills are required.
- Proficiency in English comprehension, written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Ability to multitask and respond to a variety of simultaneous demands.
- Ability to interact effectively and professionally with professional staff at all levels as well as within a team.
- Demonstrated leadership qualities.
- Mature & qualified.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and assume responsibility.
- Ability to organize and complete tasks with minimum supervision.
- Ability to adapt readily to changing demands and situations.
- Ability to perform as a team member and seek assistance as necessary.

Physical Requirements

- Ability to lift heavy medical equipment (up to 45 lbs.).
- Ability to push wheeled medical equipment.
- May be exposed to infectious diseases, blood and body fluids, radiation, toxic materials, noise,



and allergens.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment. Please note that an employee is not permitted to hold two or more positions across the WRHA legal entity that combine to equal more than 1.0 EFT.
