Maylan Construction and Restoration

Hawkesbury

Job Summary

Restoration is a unique industry where no two days are exactly the same. Our work begins when homes and businesses have been affected by unexpected events such as water damage, fire, mold, asbestos, storms, and other property losses. Our job is to assess the situation, prevent further damage, safely remove affected materials, clean and restore the property, and ultimately help put things back together.

Because of the variety of situations we encounter, restoration is an excellent career for someone who enjoys working with their hands, solving problems, analyzing situations, and learning different trades. A restoration technician becomes a true jack-of-all-trades — one day may involve water extraction and structural drying, another controlled demolition or asbestos abatement, and another framing, drywall, painting, or rebuilding a damaged area.

We value quality workmanship, reliability, teamwork, professionalism, safety, and taking pride in doing a job properly. We are looking for people who don't simply want to complete a task, but who want to understand what they are doing, think through problems, learn new skills, and leave a job knowing the work was done right.

Previous restoration or construction experience is an asset, but newcomers to the industry are encouraged to apply. We are willing to train motivated individuals who have a positive work ethic, are mechanically inclined, enjoy learning, and want to develop a long-term career in the restoration industry.

For someone interested in construction but unsure which trade they want to pursue, restoration provides exposure to many different areas of construction, building science, emergency response, remediation, and reconstruction.

Duties & Responsibilities

Technicians typically work in teams of two or more and may perform a wide variety of restoration, mitigation, remediation, and reconstruction activities.

Responsibilities may include

- Responding to residential and commercial water, fire, mold, asbestos, storm, and other property-damage losses
- Performing emergency mitigation and preventing further property damage
- Water extraction and removal of affected materials
- Setting up, monitoring, relocating, and removing drying and restoration equipment
- Taking and documenting moisture readings and assisting with structural drying
- Performing controlled demolition of drywall, flooring, insulation, cabinetry, trim, ceilings, and other affected building materials
- Performing asbestos abatement and mold remediation while following required procedures, PPE, containment, and safety requirements
- Fire and smoke damage cleaning,

debris removal, and detailed cleaning
- Building and maintaining containments and controlled work areas
- HEPA vacuuming and specialized cleaning
- Contents manipulation, protection, packing, moving, and resetting as required
- Maintaining clean, organized, and safe work areas
- Taking job-site photographs and documenting work performed
- Recording equipment, moisture readings, materials, labour hours, and other required job information
- Using company documentation/software, including Encircle where applicable
- Communicating professionally with supervisors, coworkers, customers, subcontractors, and other parties on site
- Loading, unloading, cleaning, inspecting, and maintaining tools and restoration equipment
- Assisting with reconstruction and general construction work including framing, insulation, drywall installation, taping/mudding, trim, painting, flooring, and other repairs
- Identifying unexpected site conditions and communicating concerns to the supervisor rather than simply working around a problem
- Following company health and safety procedures and applicable regulatory requirements
- Participating in the company's rotating after-hours/on-call emergency response schedule
- Performing other restoration and construction-related duties as required

Because restoration is an emergency-response industry, occasional evenings, weekends, overtime, and emergency call-outs should be expected. Qualifications & Experience Required

- Valid driver's licence and ability to reliably travel to job sites
- Ability to safely use basic hand and power tools
- Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting, carrying, bending, kneeling, climbing stairs/ladders, and working for extended periods while wearing required PPE
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Dependable attendance and punctuality
- Good communication and organizational skills
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Willingness to participate in the rotating on-call schedule
- Willingness to learn and perform a variety of restoration and construction tasks
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safe, quality workmanship

Preferred / Assets

- Previous restoration, construction, renovation,

demolition, remediation, or related trade experience
- IICRC certifications or training, particularly Water Restoration Technician (WRT) and other restoration-related courses
- Knowledge of water damage restoration and structural drying principles
- Asbestos abatement training or previous asbestos experience
- Mold remediation experience or training
- Fire and smoke restoration experience
- General carpentry and construction knowledge
- Experience with framing, drywall, mudding, painting, flooring, trim, or other reconstruction work

- Familiarity with Encircle or other restoration documentation software
- First Aid/CPR, Working at Heights, WHMIS, respiratory protection, or other applicable safety training
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting/problem-solving ability

Candidates are not expected to already know everything listed above. Restoration covers a very broad range of skills, and training is an important part of the position. We are particularly interested in candidates who demonstrate initiative, curiosity, good judgement, and a genuine willingness to learn.

What We Offer

- Competitive compensation based on experience, qualifications, and certifications

If you're the type of person who enjoys fixing things, learning how buildings work, working with your hands, and being able to look back at the end of the day and see what you accomplished, we encourage you to apply.
