As in-house legal counsel, this position works independently of lawyers in executive and legislative branches of government and public practice and is the authority in the law surrounding court administration and judicial independence. The incumbent is also engaged by the judiciary in procedural and substantive issues in diverse areas of the law and in matters related to the discharge of judicial duties under federal and territorial statutes. The workload is diverse, and files may be groundbreaking, complex, and concerned with conflicting legal principles.This position reports to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and Chief Judge of the Territorial Court, and administratively to the Director, Court Services. It works with one other Legal Counsel (Yukon Courts) to provide legal support to Yukon Courts and the judiciary.
