English and Social Studies Teacher (Grades 6–11)
The successful candidate will provide high-quality instruction and foster a positive learning environment that supports student achievement, engagement, and well-being. Responsibilities include:
- Planning and delivering Alberta curriculum-aligned English Language Arts and Social Studies programs for students in Grades 6–11.
- Creating engaging, inclusive, and student-centred learning experiences that promote critical thinking, literacy development, communication skills, and global citizenship.
- Utilizing differentiated instruction and assessment practices to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
- Monitoring student progress through formative and summative assessments and providing timely feedback to students and families.
- Supporting students with a range of learning needs through collaboration with Learner Support staff, Educational Assistants, and families.
- Developing, implementing, and reviewing Learner Support Plans (LSPs), IPPs, and accommodations as required.
- Maintaining accurate student records, assessment data, attendance, and reporting using school and division platforms, including PowerSchool.
- Collaborating with colleagues in professional learning communities to enhance instructional practices and student outcomes.
Education/Qualifications
In addition to demonstrating robust teaching competencies,
applicants must possess:
- A valid Alberta Teaching Certificate or eligibility for certification in Alberta.
- A Bachelor of Education degree with a specialization or significant coursework in English Language Arts, Social Studies, or related fields.
- Demonstrated excellence in classroom instruction at the junior high and/or high school level.
- Strong knowledge of Alberta Education curriculum, assessment, and reporting requirements.
- Experience implementing differentiated instruction and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles.
- Effective classroom management skills and the ability to foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment.
Desirable Qualifications
- Experience teaching both English Language Arts and Social Studies in Grades 6–11.
- Knowledge of literacy intervention strategies and adolescent literacy development.
- Experience integrating technology to enhance student engagement and learning.
- Participation in professional learning communities and collaborative school improvement initiatives.
- Experience coaching, leading extracurricular activities, or sponsoring student clubs.
- Familiarity with International Baccalaureate (IB) programs or inquiry-based learning approaches is considered an asset.
