Role Description The Senior Accountant, Assurance and Accounting, is a full-time, on-site role based in Mississauga, ON. This position is responsible for planning and executing assurance and accounting engagements, including audits, reviews, and compilations, in accordance with professional standards and firm policies. Day-to-day tasks include preparing and analyzing financial statements, performing detailed testing of account balances and transactions, documenting audit procedures, and identifying and communicating issues or opportunities for improvement to clients and internal teams.
The role also involves supervising and mentoring junior team members, reviewing their work for accuracy and completeness, and contributing to the development of internal processes and best practices.
The Senior
Accountant will interact regularly with clients, support engagement planning and budgeting, and help advance business development initiatives by building strong professional relationships.
Qualifications
- Strong technical accounting and assurance skills, with experience in preparing and reviewing financial statements under relevant standards (e.g., ASPE, IFRS).
- Proficiency in audit and review procedures, including risk assessment, internal control evaluation, and substantive testing.
- Advanced skills in using accounting and audit software, as well as Microsoft Excel and other productivity tools.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking abilities to interpret financial data and identify issues.
- Clear and skilled communication skills, both written and verbal, for interacting with clients and team members.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise, coach, and review the work of junior staff in a team-based environment.
- Strong time management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple engagements and deadlines.
- Professional accounting designation (CPA or equivalent) or near completion of a recognized accounting program.
- Relevant experience in public practice, particularly in assurance and accounting services.
- Commitment to ethical conduct, continuous learning, and staying current with changes in accounting and assurance standards.
