Senior Accountant – General Accounting & Reconciliations

We are looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to take ownership of key accounting reconciliations, general ledger accuracy, and month-end/year-end accounting activities. The successful candidate must have robust accounting fundamentals and be comfortable independently investigating discrepancies and making appropriate correcting entries.

Key Responsibilities

- Complete monthly reconciliations of balance sheet and general ledger accounts and ensure all reconciling items are properly investigated and cleared.
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, AP, AR, payroll, accrued liabilities, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, loans and intercompany accounts.
- Prepare and post monthly journal entries, accruals, reclassifications and adjusting entries.
- Review transactions to ensure they have been posted to the correct GL accounts and accounting periods.
- Identify incorrect, duplicate or missing transactions and determine the appropriate corrective accounting treatment.
- Analyze GL account activity and investigate unusual balances, fluctuations and discrepancies.
- Maintain reconciliation schedules with clear and appropriate supporting documentation.
- Support and actively participate in the month-end and year-end close process.
- Perform account and financial data analysis to identify trends, inconsistencies and potential accounting issues.
- Assist with improving accounting procedures, reconciliations and financial controls.




- Work closely with AP, AR, payroll and other departments to resolve accounting discrepancies.

Required Skills & Experience

- Minimum 5 years of hands-on accounting experience, preferably in a Senior Accountant or similar role.
- Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting and journal entries.
- Strong reconciliation skills with demonstrated ability to investigate and resolve differences, not simply identify them.
- Good understanding of accrual accounting and month-end/year-end closing procedures.
- Solid attention to detail and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, SUMIFS and working with large data sets.
- Experience with Sage 100 is considered a strong asset.
- Accounting degree/diploma required

What We Are Looking For

This position is best suited for a hands-on accountant who enjoys reconciliation and investigative accounting work. The successful candidate should be able to look at an account balance, understand what should be there, trace discrepancies back to the underlying transactions, and determine the correct journal entry or accounting adjustment required to resolve the issue.

Accuracy, ownership and the ability to complete work within monthly reporting deadlines are essential.

Pay: From $70,000.00 per year
