Location Edmonton, Alberta The Opportunity
As the platform expands, BP Holdings is seeking an experienced and strategic Senior Corporate Controller to lead financial reporting, strengthen financial controls, support acquisitions, and help build scalable financial infrastructure across a growing portfolio of companies.
The Senior Corporate Controller owns consolidated accounting, financial reporting, and internal controls across the BP Holdings platform and its operating companies. Financial statements are prepared in accordance with Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE).
The Corporate
Controller is accountable for consolidation, standardizing accounting policy and reporting across the platform, leading the annual audit and tax compliance, and delivering timely, accurate reporting to support the CFO, CEO, Board, and lenders.
Success in this role depends on leading through influence: setting platform standards, holding operating company controllers to common deadlines and quality expectations, and building credibility with company presidents and their finance teams.
Your Key Responsibilities
Consolidation & Financial Reporting
- Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual consolidation of the operating companies and holding entities under ASPE,
including intercompany eliminations, purchase accounting, and partnership/equity accounting.
- Produce the consolidated monthly reporting package — income statement, balance sheet, cash flow, KPIs, and leverage ratio — with MTD, QTD, YTD, and TTM comparisons to budget and reforecast.
- Shorten and standardize the month-end close calendar across the platform.
Operating Company Controllers (Indirect Reports)
- Act as functional leader for the four operating company controllers: set close deadlines, reporting standards, templates, and review expectations for each company's reporting package.
- Review each operating company package for accuracy, consistency of accounting treatment, and quality of reconciliations, accruals, and estimates.
- Coach and develop the operating company controllers and their teams; provide input to their performance reviews and identify capability gaps, supporting hiring or role upgrades with the CFO and company presidents.
Accounting Policy & Technical Accounting
- Maintain a platform-wide ASPE accounting policy manual, standardized chart of accounts, and common reporting templates.
- Resolve technical accounting matters under ASPE, including business combinations and purchase price allocations, inventory costing, leases, revenue recognition, and impairment.
- Lead accounting integration of new acquisitions onto platform standards.
Audit, Tax & Lender Compliance
- Lead the annual external audit and deliver the audit report within bank-mandated timelines.
- Coordinate corporate, partnership, and indirect tax filings with external advisors; manage CRA accounts, remittances, and reconciliations.
- Prepare lender compliance certificates and covenant calculations for CFO review and on-time submission.
Internal Controls & Systems
- Design and maintain internal controls over financial reporting, including cash disbursements, payroll, inventory, and signing authorities at each operating company.
- Drive consistency across ERP and reporting systems and automate the consolidation and reporting process.
FP&A; and Business Support
- Provide actuals, variance analysis, and data to support budgeting, quarterly reforecasting, and working capital KPIs (DSO, DPO, DIO).
- Support the CFO with Board, shareholder, and lender materials, and with analysis for special projects and tuck-in acquisitions.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- CPA designation with 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including public accounting and multi-entity consolidation.
- Strong working knowledge of ASPE, including business combinations and purchase price allocations.
- Manufacturing or distribution industry experience preferred; building materials an asset.
- Prior experience in a private equity–backed or acquisitive workplace, including integrating acquired companies onto common accounting policies and systems.
- Proven ability to lead and influence decentralized finance teams without direct authority.
- Strong ERP and reporting systems capability, advanced Excel.
- Willingness to travel to operating company locations, as required.
