The Prospect: Senior Director, Commercial - Canada
Reporting to the Vice-President & General Manager (GM) of Canada, this role will be a core member of the Canadian Leadership Team and will play an important role in building the Company’s presence in Canada and bringing its portfolio to Canadian patients.
The Senior
Director, Commercial will lead launch readiness planning and the development and execution of go-to-market strategies across the Company’s portfolio and indications. The role requires hands-on involvement in building the Canadian organization from the ground up, including shaping the commercial capabilities required across marketing, sales, market access and pricing, and commercial excellence. The incumbent will work closely with Global teams to ensure Canadian strategies and plans are aligned with the broader organization. As a member of the Canadian Leadership Team, this individual will also contribute to overall Canadian strategy and work cross-functionally to achieve the Company’s broader organizational goals.
Responsibilities
Strategy, Marketing and Commercialization:
- Define the portfolio vision and establish the commercialization strategy for the Company’s oncology portfolio in Canada, working closely with the local team and key Global stakeholders across functions.
- Own the Canadian operational plans by developing a competitive, cross-functional launch plan, defining strategic priorities and critical success factors, and establishing the foundation for successful product launches.
- Collaborate with Global Commercial Development and Global Value, Access and Pricing teams to ensure Canadian market needs are identified, understood, and incorporated into broader strategic plans.
- Partner with cross-functional teams, including R&D;, Regulatory, Clinical, Medical Affairs, Market Access, Customer Engagement, Patient Advocacy, and Corporate Affairs, to analyze and interpret clinical data, leverage market insights, provide recommendations to Global and Regional teams,
and develop and execute effective launch strategies.
- Contribute to the Global development of brand and patient value propositions based on clinical evidence, customer insights, and evolving market needs.
Sales, Marketing & Market Access/Pricing:
- Lead the development of the Canadian commercial strategy, including initial commercial assessments, recommendations for the Canadian marketing and sales model for launch and beyond, selection of communication and distribution channels, market assessments, and early value and pricing input into the Global strategy.
Commercial Excellence; Business Analytics & Insights, Commercial Operations:
- Conduct in-depth market analyses and competitive landscape assessments, identifying key trends, opportunities, and potential challenges to inform strategic decision-making.
- Ensure appropriate account segmentation and targeting, account activation planning, and the development of comprehensive performance metrics for field-based teams.
- Provide expertise on current and emerging Canadian healthcare and oncology market trends that may impact the Company’s portfolio across current and future indications.
Key Opinion Leader (KOL) Relationships and Stakeholder Engagement:
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with KOLs across priority tumor areas to strengthen the Company’s understanding of the Canadian oncology landscape and support successful commercialization.
- Engage with KOLs to gather insights, validate launch plans, understand unmet needs, and support appropriate market development activities.
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders,
including healthcare professionals and organizations, regulatory bodies, patient advocacy groups, and industry partners.
- Facilitate effective communication between internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure alignment on priorities, goals, and expectations.
- Represent the Company at conferences, industry events, and relevant external meetings in a manner consistent with the Company’s mission and objectives.
Preferred Skills, Experience and Education
- The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the biotechnology and biopharmaceutical landscape, particularly within oncology and hematology, combined with demonstrated leadership, team-building, and talent attraction capabilities across marketing, sales, market access, product planning, and customer engagement.
- Minimum of 15 years of experience across marketing, market access, market development, product planning, or commercial strategy within the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry.
- Strong people leadership capabilities with demonstrated experience building, developing, and leading high-performing teams from the ground up.
- Strong strategic thinking, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to translate complex information into clear commercial priorities and actions.
- Demonstrated experience successfully launching and commercializing pharmaceutical or biotechnology products in Canada.
- Experience working in a start-up, affiliate build-out, or entrepreneurial environment and collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams within an international organization.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at multiple levels.
- Willingness to travel nationally and internationally as required.
- Demonstrate the Company’s values through leadership and decision-making and serve as a positive role model for the broader organization.
