The Opportunity: Head of Medical Affairs

Reporting to the General Manager Canada, the Senior Director, Medical Affairs is the medical leader responsible for defining and executing the local medical strategy for the company’s portfolio and future launches. This role serves as the medical voice within the Canadian Leadership Team, ensuring scientific excellence, compliant medical engagement, and robust alignment between global strategy and the needs of Canadian patients, healthcare professionals, and the healthcare system.

This leader will ensure that Canadian medical considerations are reflected in regional medical strategy and plans and will partner closely with the General Manager and cross-functional teams, as well as Regional and Global Medical Affairs leadership. The incumbent will contribute to building the Canadian Medical Affairs function and work closely with Regional and Global Medical Affairs teams across key medical functions.

Required Experience:

- Serve as the Medical Affairs lead for Canada, with accountability for local medical strategy, execution, and impact across the oncology portfolio
- Translate global medical and clinical strategies into locally relevant medical plans aligned with Canadian regulations, healthcare needs, and clinical practice
- Build and maintain strong relationships with national and regional key opinion leaders, oncology networks, academic institutions, and scientific societies
- Lead scientific exchange and engagement at the country level, including advisory boards, investigator meetings, external scientific meetings, press conferences, and medical congresses
- Collaborate effectively with Regional and Global teams, contributing to the broader Medical Affairs strategy and partnering closely with local, regional, and global Clinical Development and Clinical Operations teams
- Lead local medical strategy and execution across pre-launch, launch,



and post-launch phases
- Provide Canadian medical expertise to evidence-generation activities, including local studies, real-world evidence initiatives, and investigator-initiated research, where permitted
- Support the effective execution of publication plans and scientific communication activities
- Lead medical launch readiness for oncology products, including medical training, scientific materials, and field medical engagement plans
- Partner with Market Access and Commercial teams to support value communication and reimbursement-related activities from a medical perspective, including defining and communicating the clinical evidence and value of innovation in HTA and payer interactions
- Support lifecycle management activities, including new indications, label updates, and assessment of the evolving competitive landscape
- Work closely with Market Access, Commercial, Regulatory, Safety, and Corporate Affairs to ensure aligned, effective, and compliant execution of Canadian plans
- Provide medical review and approval of non-promotional materials in accordance with Canadian regulations and company policies
- Build, lead, and develop the Canadian Medical Affairs team as the organization grows, including Medical Advisors and Medical Science Liaisons
- Establish medical processes, governance, and ways of working as part of the company’s Canadian organizational build-out
- Foster a culture of scientific rigor, collaboration, accountability, and compliance




- Ensure all medical activities comply with Canadian regulations, applicable national and regional codes, and internal company policies
- Represent Medical Affairs within Canadian leadership, governance, and risk-management forums

Required Skills, Experience and Education:

- Advanced scientific or healthcare degree required (PhD or PharmD)
- Strong scientific background and significant experience in oncology required
- 10+ years of Medical Affairs experience, including a demonstrated track record of leadership at the country level
- Proven experience in value and benefit assessment, with a strong understanding of Canadian payer and health technology assessment decision-making
- Robust stakeholder management skills with the ability to build trusted relationships and collaborate effectively with internal and external partners
- Proven experience supporting oncology product launches in Canada
- Strong understanding of the Canadian healthcare system, oncology clinical practice, and regulatory environment
- Experience working within a biotechnology organization and/or contributing to the build-out of a recent affiliate or Medical Affairs function
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively in both in-person and virtual environments
- Proven leadership and people-management capabilities, with demonstrated success in a small, quick-growing, entrepreneurial environment
- Scientific, strategic, and solution-oriented mindset, with the ability to make decisions and execute effectively in a rapidly evolving and ambiguous environment
- Strong understanding of Canadian healthcare systems, stakeholder dynamics, and reimbursement environments
- Willingness to travel nationally and internationally as required
- Bilingual proficiency in English and French preferred
