Inc. (HSP Engineering and Environmental Services) is a multi-disciplined engineering and environmental services firm based in Long Sault, Ontario, just west of Cornwall. For over 40 years, the company has delivered qualified and technical services to industrial, commercial, and governmental clients across Eastern Ontario, Western Quebec, Northern New York State, Northern Ontario, and the broader northeast region. Originally focused on supporting the rapidly expanding local industrial sector, particularly the pulp and paper industry, HSP has since broadened its services to include commercial, municipal, and residential projects. These projects range from affordable housing and subdivisions to roads, municipal services, and environmental assessments. The firm is locally owned, with each discipline managed by a senior engineer who oversees daily operations and project quality.
Role Description The Senior Electrical Engineer is a full-time, on-site role located in Long Sault, ON. This position is responsible for leading electrical engineering design and analysis for industrial, commercial, municipal, and residential projects, including power distribution and power systems. Day-to-day tasks include preparing detailed electrical drawings and specifications, performing calculations, coordinating with other engineering disciplines, and ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards.
The Senior Electrical
Engineer will mentor junior team members, review technical work, and support project planning, budgeting, and client communication. The role also involves site visits, inspections, and collaboration with contractors and stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Ontario, is required.
- Several years of progressive experience in industrial, commercial, or municipal electrical engineering projects.
- Candidates should possess strong skills in Electrical Engineering and Electricity, with the ability to apply fundamental principles to complex projects.
- Candidates should possess expertise in Electrical Design, including creating detailed schematics, layouts, and technical documentation.
- Candidates should possess solid knowledge of Power Distribution and Power Systems, including analysis, protection, and coordination.
- Proficiency with relevant design and modeling software (e.g., AutoCAD, electrical design tools) and familiarity with Canadian and Ontario electrical codes and standards.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, and experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and clients.
Key Responsibilities The successful candidate must:
- Identify customer requirements
- Design electrical distribution systems
- Research suitable solutions
- Prepare equipment and installation specifications
- Evaluate electrical systems requirements, suitability of products and components.
- Construction site inspections and meetings
- Prepare reports of design intent, design progress and construction progress
- Liaise with others in the design team
- Communicate with clients and contractors
- Provide engineering information by answering questions and requests.
- Apply Electrical code requirements
Wage
$50/hr - $65/hr varies with experience and qualifications
