About the Opportunity-Senior Electrical Engineering Technologist
Team Power Solutions is looking for a Senior Electrical Engineering Technologist to join our team based out of Regina. In this role, you will take the lead on field commissioning, protection and control (P&C;), and maintenance testing for industrial and utility clients. You’ll be on the tools handling complex troubleshooting, leading site crews, and mentoring intermediate and junior techs.
What You'll Be Doing
- Lead on-site commissioning, testing, and maintenance of LV, MV, and HV electrical power systems, substations, and switchgear.
- Perform primary and secondary injection testing on power transformers, circuit breakers, CTs/PTs, switchgear line-ups, and auxiliary equipment.
- Program, test, and troubleshoot protective relays using secondary test sets and software.
- Commission and troubleshoot substation automation equipment, RTUs, PLCs, communication processors, and SCADA links.
- Review, redline, and verify drawings on-site, including single-lines, AC/DC schematics, logic diagrams, and wiring schematics.
- Run field crews during outages and commissioning phases,
ensuring work is done safely, on schedule, and up to spec.
- Put together comprehensive commissioning test reports, deficiency logs, and sign-off documentation for clients.
- Act as the main technical contact for clients on site.
What We’re Looking For
- Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 7+ years of hands-on field experience in electrical commissioning, substation maintenance, or P&C; testing.
- Strong working knowledge of:
- SEL: 751, 710, 787, 487E (using AcSELerator QuickSet).
- GE Multilin: UR Series including T60 and B60 (using EnerVista).
- Direct experience running Omicron Test Universe (or equivalent Doble/Megger secondary injection test gear).
- Apparatus Testing & Diagnostics: Hands-on experience performing insulation resistance (Megger), power factor / tan delta, transformer turns ratio (TTR), winding resistance, CT saturation/ratio/polarity, contact resistance (ductor), and breaker timing/motion analysis.
- Drawings & Circuit Verification: Proven ability to trace and point-to-point verify AC current/potential circuits, DC trip and control schematics, interlocks, and auxiliary logic against manufacturer wiring diagrams and design prints.
- Communications & Protocols: Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (Modbus, DNP3, IEC 61850, SEL Fast Message) and basic networking.
- Transformer & Switchgear Practices: Solid grasp of transformer maintenance practices (oil sampling/DGA interpretation, bushing testing, LTC checks) and switchgear maintenance/troubleshooting
Working Conditions & Requirements
- Based out of Regina, SK,
with up to 80% travel to job sites across Canada.
- Willing to work extended shifts, scheduled shutdowns, on-call, and weekend work when required.
- Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs (23 kg), climb ladders, and work around high-voltage industrial sites.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean abstract.
- Must be able to pass standard pre-employment drug, alcohol, and site-access security screenings.
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
