The Financial Analyst will support the Director of Accounting and EVP Finance in the Reporting, Analysis of a portfolio of Long-Term Care properties. This role will also be hands-on with month-end, preparing journal entries, as well as review/preparation of periodic ministry reporting requirements. The ideal candidate will have a process improvement oriented mindset – being able to assist in improving reporting and develop and monitor key performance indicators.
Financial Planning & Analysis
- End‑to‑end budgeting and forecasting processes for multiple entities, including monthly/quarterly re‑forecasts, scenario planning, and variance analysis aligned to strategic priorities.
- Partner with operations and functional leaders to translate strategic plans into financial plans, ensuring resource allocation supports service quality, growth targets, and margin objectives.
- Analyzes and monitors current and past trends in key performance indicators including all areas of revenues and expenses; highlights trends and analyzes causes of unexpected variance
- Support Asset dispensation, including allocation, utilization monitoring, redeployment, and retirement/disposal decisions.
- Perform detailed financial and operational analysis to evaluate the feasibility of new business lines and service offerings, including revenue/cost modeling, break‑even analysis, and sensitivity testing.
Financial Reporting
- Produce monthly financial statements, managerial reports and analysis (variance against budget, various reconciliations and third-party reports)
- Prepare weekly occupancy report and other marketing related reports
- Analysis and recording of revenue from Ministry of Health and Long Term Care.
- Preparation and recording of payroll journal entries.
- Calculation and recording of expense and payroll accruals and allocations as necessary.
- Preparation of other month end adjusting journal entries.
- Communication with accounting and administrative personnel at homes regarding accounting issues
- Prepares and recommends journal entries for areas of responsibility
- Reviews balance sheet with reconciliation of accounts for accuracy
- Prepare year-end audit schedules
- Prepares and submits periodic government reports on a timely basis
Qualifications
- 3+ years of working experience in an Accounting, Financial Analyst or related role with hands on experience with financial reporting and exposure to GL reconciliations.
- Completion of, or nearing completion of CPA designation highly valued
- Experience working with large data sets, producing and analyzing a variety of reports is critical
- Experience within the hospitality, real estate, retirement or long-term care industry is highly valued
- Knowledge of unionized payroll, collective agreement would be an asset.
- Strong communication, presentation and stakeholder management skills required
- Analytical skills are key for success in this role – being able to review and interpret financial, operational and transform it into meaningful data for the purpose of strategic decision making.
- Self-motivated, organized, and requires little supervision.
