Explorer Hotel | Yellowknife, NT The Explorer Hotel is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Hotel Maintenance Technician to join our team. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, this position is responsible for maintaining the hotel's mechanical systems, guest rooms, public areas, and exterior property to ensure a safe, comfortable, and well-maintained environment for guests and employees. The successful candidate will possess robust technical knowledge, excellent troubleshooting skills, and a hands-on approach to facility maintenance.
Required Qualifications
Applicants must possess one of the following:
- Fourth Class Power Engineering Certificate; or
- Journeyperson Certification in HVAC, Plumbing, or a related trade.
Candidates must currently reside in Yellowknife, NT, or be willing to relocate to Yellowknife as a condition of employment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on hotel mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.
- Troubleshoot and resolve maintenance issues efficiently and effectively.
- Complete general maintenance throughout the hotel, including guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house spaces, and exterior grounds.
- Carry out drywall repairs, painting, carpentry, and minor renovation projects.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergency repair situations.
- Conduct routine inspections of building systems, equipment, and property assets.
- Assist with seasonal maintenance and exterior property upkeep.
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs and work order records.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, building codes, and company policies.
- Support the Maintenance Manager with ongoing projects and operational requirements.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Strong understanding of hotel or commercial building maintenance operations.
- General knowledge of plumbing, electrical systems, HVAC equipment, and mechanical systems.
- Experience troubleshooting building-related issues and implementing repairs.
- Proficiency in drywall repair, painting, carpentry, and general construction practices.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize competing tasks.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting, climbing ladders, and working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Previous hotel, commercial, or facilities maintenance experience is considered a strong asset.
