Description
Ancillary Services under AVP (Strategy, Enterprise and Commercial) is currently seeking a Full-time Regular Senior Manager, Asset Management and Capital Planning.

Services includes Residence Services, Business Operations, Summer Accommodations, Food Services, Conference and Event Management, Bookstore, WA Ranches, Parking and Transportation Services, along with other diverse commercial and service operations.

Services is a revenue generating organization aligned with private sector business principles.
Reporting to the Senior Director, Ancillary Services, the Senior Manager, Asset Management and Capital Planning will provide strategic leadership for the planning, stewardship and optimization of a diverse portfolio of assets. The portfolio includes nine student residence communities, domestic dwellings, ranch infrastructure, operational fleet assets, land holdings and other facilities under the Ancillary Services portfolio.
The position is responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive asset management strategies that support operational requirements, regulatory compliance, sustainability objectives and long-term financial stewardship. Working closely with Facilities Development, Facilities Maintenance, internal operational leaders and external consultants and contractors, the position will establish capital priorities, develop long-range renewal plans and ensure informed investment decisions are made throughout the asset lifecycle. The portfolio of planning and execution activity will be upwards of $20m per annum.
The successful candidate will also identify opportunities to improve business processes, asset performance and operational effectiveness across Ancillary Services through continuous improvement initiatives and data-driven decision-making.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
Asset Management and Capital Planning
- Develop and maintain comprehensive asset management life cycle plans for Ancillary Services facilities, infrastructure, fleet and land assets ‿ The 40-Year Plan; ensuring asset planning aligns with: institutional priorities, strategic plans and available funding sources.
- Develop asset condition assessment programs and maintain accurate asset inventories and asset management data.
- Lead asset risk assessment processes and develop mitigation strategies to address critical asset vulnerabilities.
- Prioritize capital renewal and replacement projects using risk, service level, operational and financial criteria.
Capital Program Integration
- Collaborate closely with Facilities Development, Facilities Maintenance and operational stakeholders to develop capital priorities and project scopes.
- Provide asset management expertise during project planning and design phases.
- Work collaboratively with the capital projects resource responsible for execution of small capital projects to ensure effective transition from planning to implementation.
- Establish governance,
standards and processes that support a seamless handoff between capital planning and capital project delivery.
- Participate in project reviews and post-project evaluations to assess asset performance and investment outcomes.
Portfolio Stewardship
- Provide strategic oversight for:
- University residence facilities
- Domestic Ranch housing assets
- General Ranch infrastructure
- Fleet assets supporting Ranch and Parking operations
- Land and related physical assets within the Ancillary Services portfolio
- Identify opportunities to optimize asset utilization, reliability and service delivery.
- Ensure regulatory, environmental and safety considerations are incorporated into asset planning activities.
- Support sustainability and energy management objectives through effective lifecycle planning.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify and lead global continuous improvement initiatives across Ancillary Services operations and asset management processes.
- Working with the finance team, analyze operational and financial data to identify opportunities for improved efficiency and effectiveness.
Qualifications / Requirements
- Undergraduate degree in Engineering, Asset Management, Facilities Management, Business or a related discipline. Relevant experience will also be considered.
- Professional designation such; Certified Asset Management Professional (CAMP), Certified Reliability Leader (CRL), Facilities Management Professional (FMP), Certified Facility Manager (CFM), Project Management Professional (PMP), or equivalent would be considered an asset.
- Minimum 7-10 years of progressive experience in asset management, capital planning, facilities management, infrastructure planning or a related project management planning fields.
- Must demonstrates strong planning, coordination and analytical skills, with financial, risk management and business case development experience.
- Demonstrated experience managing complex and diverse asset portfolios.
- Understanding of asset lifecycle planning, condition assessments, risk management and capital investment planning.
- Experience working with facilities, infrastructure and building systems.
- Knowledge of public-sector or post-secondary environments would be considered an asset.
- Experience collaborating with facilities departments, contractors, architects, engineers etc.
- Demonstrated experience leading continuous improvement initiatives and process optimization.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to influence decisions and drive outcomes in a collaborative workplace.
