Senior Project Manager – Application Modernization

Employment Type: 12-Month Term Contract

We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead complex enterprise application modernization initiatives within a large, highly matrixed organization. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving projects from initiation through implementation, with a focus on application modernization, cloud migration, transformation, consolidation, and replacement of critical enterprise systems.

This role requires a delivery-focused leader who can navigate ambiguity, coordinate diverse technical and business teams, manage vendors, and provide clear communication to senior and executive stakeholders.

Responsibilities

- Lead one or more enterprise application modernization and cloud transformation initiatives from planning through implementation.
- Manage project scope, schedule, budget, risks, issues, dependencies, and overall delivery.
- Coordinate cross-functional teams including Enterprise Architecture, Cloud/AWS, Cybersecurity, Infrastructure, Networking, Database, Data, and business stakeholders.
- Facilitate governance processes, project reporting, decision-making, and executive stakeholder engagement.
- Support application assessments, modernization roadmaps, architecture reviews, migration planning, and implementation activities.
- Manage vendors, consultants, and third-party delivery partners to ensure successful outcomes.
- Identify and proactively manage project risks, issues, dependencies, and delivery challenges.
- Drive alignment across technical and business workstreams in a complex, matrixed workplace.
- Support organizational readiness,



deployment planning, transition to operations, and post-implementation activities.
- Ensure project delivery aligns with enterprise architecture, governance, security, and cloud adoption standards.
- Provide clear and concise status reporting and presentations to senior leadership and governance committees.

Qualifications

- 10+ years of experience leading complex enterprise technology projects or programs.
- Demonstrated experience delivering application modernization, application transformation, or cloud migration initiatives.
- Strong understanding of enterprise application ecosystems and modern cloud environments.
- Experience working across multiple technical teams, including architecture, cloud, cybersecurity, infrastructure, networking, and database teams.
- Proven experience managing vendors, consultants, and third-party delivery partners.
- Strong project governance, risk, issue, dependency, and change management capabilities.
- Excellent stakeholder management and executive communication skills.
- Ability to operate effectively in ambiguous and evolving environments where requirements, scope, or architecture may change.
- Experience delivering projects within large, complex, or highly regulated organizations.

Preferred Skills

- Experience with AWS or other major cloud platforms.
- Experience within public sector, higher education, healthcare, government, or similarly complex environments.
- PMP or equivalent project management certification.
- Experience working within formal compliance, governance, or enterprise architecture frameworks.
- Experience with application lifecycle management and enterprise modernization strategies.
