An established construction services company is seeking an Assistant Controller to join its Finance department. This is an excellent opportunity for a strategic and detail-oriented Finance professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and wants to contribute to the financial success of a growing organization.
In this role, the Assistant Controller will oversee day-to-day divisional accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, project costing, compliance, and team leadership. Partnering with senior leadership and operational teams, the successful candidate will play a key role in supporting financial performance, maintaining robust internal controls, and driving continuous improvement across the organization.
What You’ll Do
Oversee day-to-day divisional operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll support, and general ledger activities
Lead the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
Prepare and review divisional financial statements, management reports and financial analyses
Monitor project costing, job profitability, work-in-progress reporting and contract billing activities
Assist with budgeting, forecasting cash flow management, and financial planning initiatives
Collaborate with Project Managers and Operations teams to support project financial performance
Ensure compliance with accounting standards, company policies and regulatory requirements
Coordinate annual audits and liaise with external auditors, financial institutions and advisors
Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, internal controls, and reporting efficiencies.
Provide leadership, coaching,
and development to accounting team members
What You Bring to the Team
5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibilities
Experience within construction, contracting, project-based, or industrial environments is strongly preferred.
Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting and internal controls
Experience with project costing, contract billing, holdbacks, and construction accounting practices
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, and accounting software/ERP systems
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively across departments
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Positive attitude with a collaborative, team-first mindset
Role Snapshot
Location: Surrey, BC
Job Type: Permanent | Full-Time | Onsite
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Salary: $95,000 – $125,000 (based on experience)
Reports To: Corporate Controller
