MatchBox Consulting Group is recruiting for an Intermediate or Senior Architectural Technologist to support multi‑family residential and commercial projects in Edmonton, Alberta.
This role focuses on technical documentation, consultant coordination, permit support, and construction administration throughout the building lifecycle. The successful candidate will contribute to projects from permit and tender phases through construction and closeout, working closely with architects, consultants, contractors, and project stakeholders.
This position is well suited to a technically strong Architectural Technologist who enjoys balancing drawing production, technical coordination, and active involvement during construction.
Responsibilities
Prepare and coordinate architectural working drawings, construction details, and technical documentation for residential and commercial projects
Support projects through design development, permit, tender, construction, and closeout phases
Develop permit packages and construction documentation with a focus on constructability, code compliance, and technical accuracy
Coordinate architectural documents with consultant drawings and project requirements
Review and comment on shop drawings, product data, samples, specifications, and other technical submittals
Conduct site visits and field reviews, documenting progress and identifying deficiencies or discrepancies
Prepare and coordinate contract administration documentation including RFIs, supplemental instructions, change notices, change orders, payment certificates, and closeout documentation
Liaise with contractors, consultants, municipal authorities, and project stakeholders to resolve technical and construction‑related issues
Participate in consultant meetings, site meetings, coordination reviews, and project closeout activities
Support projects involving wood‑frame construction, with exposure to concrete, steel, mixed‑use, and mid‑rise developments
Contribute to quality control initiatives, documentation standards, and mentorship of junior team members where appropriate
Requirements
Intermediate Level
Minimum 4+ years of experience within an architectural practice or related environment
Diploma in Architectural Technology or equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience producing permit drawings, working drawings, construction documents, and technical details
Experience working in a Revit‑based environment, with some exposure to CAD documentation
Senior Level
Minimum 7+ years of experience in architectural technology
Significant experience supporting construction documentation and contract administration activities
Demonstrated ability to coordinate technical documentation and support project teams through permit, tender, and construction phases
Preferred Qualifications
Strong knowledge of building assemblies, building science, construction methods, and Alberta building code requirements
Experience with multi‑family residential projects, including wood‑frame and mid‑rise developments
Proficiency with Revit, Microsoft Office, and document coordination tools
Experience with contract administration activities including field reviews, submittal reviews, change management, and payment certification
Strong organizational,
communication, and technical coordination skills
Valid Alberta Driver’s License and ability to travel to project sites within Edmonton and surrounding areas
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is a technically robust Architectural Technologist who is comfortable moving between drawing production, consultant coordination, permit documentation, and active construction‑phase support. They possess a strong understanding of how buildings are assembled, pay close attention to detail, and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
