Position Summary
Tacten is currently seeking Industrial Rescue Technician to support projects in the Atlantic Region .

The Confined Space & High Angle Rescue Technician is responsible for providing rescue standby coverage, emergency response, and technical rescue services in industrial, construction, mining, hydroelectric, marine, and oil & gas environments. The technician performs rescue readiness assessments, equipment inspections, hazard evaluations, and emergency rescue operations involving confined spaces, work at height, fall protection systems, and difficult-to-access locations.

This is project-based work starting in July and extending through October 2026 .

Work schedules may include:

Day and night shifts

Rotational schedules

Overtime

Travel to client sites throughout the region

Responsibilities
Rescue Operations

Provide dedicated confined space and high angle rescue standby coverage during work activities.

Execute emergency rescue operations involving: Confined spaces, Work at heights, Fall arrest incidents, Industrial structures, Underground facilities, Hydroelectric facilities

Perform patient packaging and evacuation utilizing rescue litters, SKED stretchers, rescue baskets, and mechanical advantage systems.

Establish and operate rescue systems including raising, lowering, hauling, and attendant rescue systems.

Participate in rescue drills, simulations, and emergency response exercises.

Rescue Planning & Risk Assessment

Review rescue plans, permits, and hazard assessments prior to work commencement.

Conduct site inspections to identify rescue challenges and emergency access requirements.

Assist in developing rescue plans, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Safe Work Procedures (SWPs), and emergency response plans.

Verify rescue equipment and personnel readiness before entry or work at height activities begin.

Equipment Management

Inspect, maintain, and document rescue equipment including:

Harnesses

Lifelines

Tripods

Winches

SRLs

Rope systems

Rescue litters

Breathing apparatus

Medical equipment

Ensure equipment inspections are completed in accordance with manufacturer specifications and applicable standards.

Identify defective equipment and remove it from service.

Emergency Medical Response

Provide first aid and patient care within the scope of certification.

Monitor entrant health and wellbeing during confined space operations.





Coordinate emergency response with site emergency personnel, ambulance services, fire departments, and client representatives.

Maintain emergency medical supplies and rescue response equipment.

Safety Leadership

Promote a strong safety culture and intervene when unsafe conditions are identified.

Participate in toolbox meetings, safety meetings, and incident investigations.

Ensure compliance with:

Provincial Occupational Health and Safety Regulations

Confined Space Regulations

Fall Protection Regulations

Company Procedures

Client Standards

Rescue Industry Best Practices

Requirements
Required Qualifications

Confined Space Rescue Technician Certification.

High Angle Rope Rescue Technician Certification.

Standard First Aid and CPR.

Fall Protection Certification.

Valid driver’s license.

Ability to pass site‑specific medical, drug, and alcohol testing requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

IRATA or SPRAT Rope Access Certification.

NFPA 1006 Rope Rescue Technician.

NFPA 1006 Confined Space Rescue Technician.

Advanced Medical First Responder (AMFR).

Emergency Medical Responder (EMR).

WHMIS.

Core Competencies

Strong understanding of confined space hazards, controls, and rescue requirements.

Proficiency in rope rescue, high angle rescue, and technical rescue systems.

Knowledge of mechanical advantage systems, patient packaging, and rescue equipment setup.

Familiarity with industrial rescue equipment, rescue standards, and safe work practices.

Ability to read and interpret rescue plans, permits, drawings, and procedures.

Strong hazard recognition and risk assessment skills.

Effective communication and leadership skills.

Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in emergency situations.

Ability to work independently and as part of a rescue team.

Strong commitment to safety, professionalism, and rescue readiness.

Performance Expectations

Maintain rescue readiness at all times while on site.

Demonstrate competency in technical rescue systems, procedures, and equipment use.

Successfully participate in rescue drills, competency assessments, and ongoing training.





Maintain all required certifications and training in good standing.

Support clients and project teams by providing professional rescue services while maintaining the highest safety standards.

Working Conditions
Physical Requirements

Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.

Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 lbs. (23 kg).

Ability to climb ladders, structures, scaffolding, and rope systems.

Ability to wear respiratory protection and rescue PPE.

Ability to work in adverse weather and industrial environments.

Ability to perform physically demanding rescue operations while maintaining situational awareness.
