Internal Medicine Specialist
Anticipated Start Date: TBD
Anticipated Shift: Full Time, Days, Early Mornings, Mornings, Evenings, Nights, On Call, Weekends
Daily Hours Worked: Various shift lengths (30 to 40 hours per week)
Position Type: Combination of Fee-for-Service and contract as per the Doctors Manitoba and Manitoba Health, Seniors and Active Living negotiated rates for rotating coverage of General Internal Medicine Unit and Screening Admission Physician.
Wage Rate: Compensation is a combination of stipend and fee-for-service for the General Internal Medical Unit as per the Doctors Manitoba and Manitoba Health, Seniors and Active Living negotiated rates. The Screening Admissions Physician receives an hourly specialist rate.
Position Summary
As the second largest city in Manitoba, with an approximate population of 60,000 and growing, Brandon is the main hub and referral site for southwestern Manitoba, with a catchment area of approximately 200,000 people. Brandon Regional Health Centre is a fully accredited multi-specialty facility with 300+ bed capacity and is currently undergoing a $110 million expansion of our inpatient care facilities, expected to be completed by 2026. Part of the expansion is a 30-bed General Internal Medical Unit.
Our facility operates 3 endoscopy rooms, with a fleet of 45 scopes and offers a high level of service to the Region. Our on-site diagnostic services include radiology, ultrasound, CT, MRI and nuclear medicine. There is a wide range of specialist services available onsite including pediatrics, obstetrics & gynecology, anesthesia, general surgery, radiology, nuclear medicine,
oncology, orthopedic surgery, urology and internal medicine.
Brandon Regional Health Centre is a satellite campus for the University of Manitoba and the Rady Faulty of Medicine and offers the prospect to contribute to the teaching/mentoring of medical learners.
Remuneration is derived from a combination of fee-for-service billing and stipend as per the Physician Services Agreement between the Minister of Health, Seniors and Active Living and Doctors Manitoba.

Responsibilities
Diagnose diseases and physiological disorders
May conduct medical research on human disorders, illnesses, preventive or curative methods
Prescribe medication and treatment
Refer patients for surgery
Treat diseases and physiological disorders
Act as consultant to other physicians
Advise patients on health care
Prescribe and administer medications and treatments
Provide counselling and support to patients and their families on a wide range of health and lifestyle issues
Order laboratory tests, X-rays and other diagnostic procedures to determine the most appropriate medical treatment
Help patients develop healthy habits, break old habits and reshape their approach to wellness
Examine patients' health condition to identify diseases and injuries
Collect medical information from patients, family members, or other medical professionals
