Job Summary
The Safety Advisor supports the implementation and monitoring of Castle Rock Enterprises’ Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Program across sewer and water civil construction projects. The role conducts site inspections, assists with hazard assessments, delivers orientations and training, and helps ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations. Working closely with the Safety Manager, Superintendents, and field crews, the Safety Advisor identifies risks, coaches workers toward secure practices, and fosters a solid, collaborative safety culture. This is a contract position ending in November 2026.
Key Responsibilities
Job Site Inspections & Hazard Control
Conduct regular job site inspections to monitor compliance with safety standards.
Assist in completing hazard assessments at the planning stage and throughout projects.
Report identified hazards and support supervisors in implementing corrective actions.
Incident & Near-Miss Reporting
Participate in investigations of incidents and near-misses under guidance from the Safety Manager.
Document findings and assist in preparing reports and recommendations.
Support implementation of corrective measures to prevent recurrence.
Training & Orientation
Deliver site-specific safety orientations for new employees and subcontractors.
Support Tailgate Talks and safety meetings, reinforcing secure work practices.
Promote a strong safety culture by encouraging reporting of hazards and participation in safety initiatives.
Program Administration & Documentation
Administer, monitor, and promote Castle Rock Enterprises Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Program.
Maintain accurate safety records, including inspections, training, incidents, and corrective actions.
Post and maintain required safety information, including bulletins, emergency response plans, inspection results, and meeting minutes.
Assist in preparing documentation required for audits and compliance checks.
Emergency Preparedness
Support the implementation of emergency response plans (fire, first aid, spills, trench incidents).
Ensure staff are aware of emergency procedures and have access to appropriate equipment.
Special Focus Areas (Civil Construction – Sewer & Water)
Monitor trenching, excavation, confined space, and heavy equipment activities for compliance with safe practices.
Verify proper use of PPE and adherence to safe operating procedures on site.
Participate in risk assessments when conditions, equipment, or processes change.
Collaboration & Support
Work closely with the Safety Manager, Superintendents, and Project Managers to integrate safety into daily operations.
Liaise respectfully with subcontractors and site staff to reinforce expectations.
Provide feedback from the field to help improve safety procedures and practices.
Requirements
3–5 years of safety experience in civil construction.
Certificate or Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety (asset).
Certifications: COR Certified, Level 1 First Aid, NCSO (asset).
Demonstrated experience conducting hazard assessments, site inspections, and incident investigations.
Prior experience administering or supporting a company-wide HSE Program.
Strong presentation and facilitation skills for training and Tailgate Talks.
Advanced computer skills, including Excel and experience with safety management software.
Proven ability to build strong working relationships with project managers, superintendents, subcontractors, and field crews.
Ability to travel to remote or project sites as required.
Valid Class 5 driver’s license with at least three (3) years of driving experience (driver’s abstract required).
