Your work environment at EXP
As part of the Soils and Materials team in the Calgary office, you will work with Project Engineers, Managers, and the Discipline Manager to perform construction observations, confirm construction materials design elements, conduct materials quality assurance/control testing, and report results in the field and laboratory for projects primarily in and around Calgary.
What a day at EXP has in store for you
Executing in office concrete tests, including casting cylinders, slump test, and air content test
In-place density testing using a nuclear densometer
Carrying out asphalt and concrete coring
Collecting soil and asphalt samples on site
Performing some in-lab work, such as testing concrete cylinders, grain-size analysis, Proctor tests, asphalt tests, geotechnical index testing, etc.
Subgrade field reviews
Problem solving of project site issues
Attending staff and project meetings when requested
Interacting with clients and contractors to provide excellent service and a quick response to their testing needs
What Your Experience Looks Like
Completion of, or current enrollment in, a recognized Civil Engineering Technology diploma program is considered an asset
Minimum 3 years of experience in concrete, asphalt, and soil testing
Familiarity with construction specifications used by the City of Calgary and surrounding municipalities is an asset
Holding a CCIL certification is an asset
Ability to work safely and effectively in field environments on active construction sites
Solid communication and interpersonal skills
Valid driver’s license
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applicationsExcellent written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, meet deadlines, and perform under pressure
Highly organized with strong time-management skills
Willingness to work night shifts and weekends as required
