The Department of History invites applications for Sessional Instructors for the Fall Semester of the 2026-27 academic year.

This appointment is subject to budget approval.

HISTORY 2010 – EUROPEAN CIVLIZATION 500BC-1648

This introductory course examines the history of European civilization from the rise of classical Greece to the Treaty of Westphalia in 1648. Lectures analyze the major political, economic, social, and cultural forces that shaped European society during this period.

Three hours per week T/Th 8:30 a.m. - 9:45 a.m.

- This course will be taught in an in-person format. In the event that no qualified applicants can teach this course in person, online options will be considered.

Qualifications for HISTORY 2010: Applicants for this position should have a PhD in European History and a publishing record in the field. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in teaching European history pre 1648.

HISTORY 2520 – ROMAN CIVILIZATION

This course surveys Roman Civilization from its beginnings to the fall of Rome. It examines key political, literary, and material creations, such as the Empire, the Aeneid, and the Colosseum, within their historical contexts. The aim is to provide both a general understanding of Ancient Rome, including its contribution to Western Civilization, and a basis for further work in Classics. Cross-listed with Classics

Three hours per week T/Th 4:00 p.m. - 5:15 p.m.

- This course will be taught in an in-person format. In the event that no qualified applicants can teach this course in person,



online options will be considered.

Qualifications for HISTORY 2520: Applicants for this position should have a PhD in Ancient history and a publishing record in the field. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in teaching in ancient Roman history or Classics specifically relating to ancient Rome.
