General Responsibilities:

The Centre for Newcomers (CFN) is an Alberta leader in providing a variety of settlement, language training and employment readiness services to newcomers. Our mission is to support newcomers and the receiving community in becoming a diverse, united community, through services and initiatives that create conditions of success for newcomers and that foster a welcoming environment in Calgary.

The Role:

The Newcomer Settlement Program assists newcomers and refugees in their adaptation to Canadian society through self-help and community development approaches.

The Settlement

Practitioner reports to the Settlement Services Manager/Director and is responsible for assisting and creating opportunities for newcomers to work towards a more active participation in community initiatives by linking newcomers with communities, organizations and agencies. Fluent in the languages of the target culture, the Practitioner works with the target groups who are newcomers to Canada and Alberta. As a member of the NSP team the Practitioner provides services according to established procedures to meet individual and team targets.

Responsibilities include:

- Recruit participants from newcomer communities; conduct initial assessment, identify service needs and support clients in developing and implementing a plan to respond to their needs.
- Facilitate access to appropriate services and support immigrants to benefit from services and referrals.
- Provide information and orientation about relevant services and opportunities to clients on-site or virtually and outreach sites.




- Organize and facilitate theme-based workshops and other group activities with focus on participatory techniques.
- Organize peer support groups and facilitate activities that provide support to newcomers’ settlement and integration.
- Facilitate Financial Literacy workshops; provide financial coaching and matched saving services
- Help promote newcomer participation in organizations, agencies and community initiatives.
- Link and partner with ethno-cultural and mainstream organizations as well as other programs of CFN.
- Conduct presentations to the community about newcomers’ settlement, needs and contributions to generate public support and response.
- Conduct regular (Regular) client follow-ups;
- Contribute to a positive culturally sensitive working environment.

Qualifications:

- Service-oriented: demonstrated commitment to exceeding client and partner service expectations. Culturally competent: familiar with serving clients from other cultures than your own; strong attention to details and follow-up skills. AAISA accreditation will have a competitive advantage.
- Education: University Degree in a related field (Counselling, Social Work or related field).
- Technical: Excellent computer, internet skills and has driver's license and own reliable transportation.
- Experience/Result-oriented:



Demonstrates focus on finishing all tasks assigned in a timely manner, experience working with high need immigrants; excellent organizational, analytical and planning skills.
- Communication: Adapts communication to respond to audience or situational requirements. In addition to English, applicants will have fluency speaking, reading and writing in Punjabi/Hindi/Urdu languages.

Other Requirements:

- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.

Pay: $50,000.00-$56,000.00 per year

- Do you have experience working with high need immigrants, with strong organizational, analytical, planning, and time management skills?

- Bachelor's Degree (required)

Experience:
- working with high need immigrants: 1 year (required)

Licence/Certification:
- AAISA accreditation is an asset. (preferred)
