Reporting to the School Chair, Academic Upgrading & Development, this position supports students with developmental disabilities in the Steps to Opportunities, Academics & Readiness (SOAR) program. In a supportive environment, the Communications Access Student Assistant will support, motivate and communicate with student(s) in a professional, empathetic and confidential manner. They will work closely with SOAR instructors & instructional assistants to implement tools & strategies to enrich the student experience.Main Duties and ResponsibilitiesProvide support to students with developmental disabilities including:Behaviour support for education-related activitiesCommunication supportAdaptive technology supportProduction support for alternate learning material formatsAdministrative support to the SOAR instructor(s)/instructional assistant(s)Additional duties as required based on student needSkills, Knowledge and AbilitiesAbility to support individuals with developmental disabilities in a learning environmentAbility to encourage,
motivate and involve clients in classroom activitiesAbility to communicate effectively (both verbally and in writing) with families, educational personnel, social workers and resource workers, service providers and partnersDiscretion when dealing with confidential mattersExcellent organizational skillsEducation and ExperienceCompletion of a Human Services program*Experience in a role working with people with developmental disabilities (minimum of 1 year of experience or combination of education and experience)Experience supporting mental health & wellness in the classroomCriminal Record Clearance, Ministry of Justice*An equivalent combination of education and experience may be consideredThis is a temporary, part time (28%-37.5%) position, commencing September 3, 2026, and ending December 18, 2026, with the possibility of extension through the winter semester.
