Shop Lead – Welding & Fabrication

Location: Sherwood Park, Alberta

Pay: $$110,000 - $117,000, based on experience and qualifications

Structure Group is a mechanical contractor serving the energy, mining, and oil sands sectors. We specialize in heavy mechanical maintenance, structural and pressure welding, and complex industrial projects across Western Canada.We are looking for an experienced Shop Lead to provide hands-on leadership within our Sherwood Park fabrication facility.This is a shop-based position offering home every night and growth opportunities as Structure Group continues to expand its fabrication facilities.

Responsibilities

- Lead day-to-day welding and fabrication activities.
- Coordinate manpower, workflow, priorities, and production.
- Remain hands-on with welding and fabrication as required.
- Oversee structural and pressure piping fabrication.
- Ensure compliance with CWB, ABSA, WPS, quality, and client requirements.
- Read and interpret drawings, specifications, and fabrication packages.
- Maintain high standards for safety, quality, and productivity.
- Coach and develop welders and apprentices.
- Support occasional small field projects.
- Assist with estimating and planning where experience permits.

Required

- Journeyperson Welder.
- CWB welding/fabrication experience.
- B Pressure for Carbon and Stainless.
- SMAW and GTAW.
- 5+ years as a Journeyperson Welder in a fabrication shop or yard.
- Previous leadership experience in structural and/or piping fabrication.




- Strong understanding of drawings, WPS requirements, fabrication, and quality standards.
- Willingness to support field work (Optional).

Preferred

- CWB Welding Supervisor certification.
- Fitting Experience with diameters up to 16inch.
- Additional alloy certifications.
- 10+ years of fabrication experience.
- 3–5 years as a Shop Lead, Foreman, or Welding Supervisor.
- Exposure to estimating, quoting, or fabrication planning.
- Strong knowledge of welding procedures and codes.

CWB Welding Supervisor certification is preferred, not mandatory. We will consider experienced Journeyperson Welders with strong shop experience and demonstrated leadership who are ready to take the next step.
