The Ski Technician's main responsibilities consist of assisting our guests with the selection of skis by providing friendly, knowledgeable service and maintaining the ski equipment fleet. The Ski Technician may be required to work in multiple areas of our operations. The Ski technician is also responsible for safety equipment inventories and upkeep, assisting in down days and driving guides and skiers to and from highway staging areas during the day.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintaining the ski fleet. This involves:
- Waxing of skis as necessary
- Installation of ski bindings
- Performing minor base and edge repairs
- Repairing minor damage to guest’s ski boots
- Keeping the ski room and exits in a clean, orderly state and free of snow.
- Daily vacuum and tidy of the boot room
- Maintain a fleet of down day bikes if/when necessary. This entails cleaning and performing mechanical adjustments and repairs to the bikes. (no suspension)
- Be available to help in the event of an emergency.
- Ensure all lodge cache rescue equipment is clean and easily accessible.
- Aid in check in presentation to ensure guests are matched with the correct ski equipment.
- Drive guests and guides to and from highway staging zones. This requires confidence driving on winter roads and that you have a clean driving record.
- Be the contact person for guests in regard to ski equipment, abs bag and avalanche beacons.
- Occasionally driving to Bell2, Meziaden Junction, Stewart, for deliveries or equipment swaps
- Assist in organization and implementation of down day activities.
- Ensure down day activity inventories are maintained and stocked.
- Act as relief radio operator / flight follow for groups in the field when transfer coordinator is unavailable.
- Assist guide team with maintenance of guest equipment such as avalanche transceivers and BCA packs.
Qualifications
- Ability to communicate effectively with clients, senior management, and co-workers.
- Hold a valid driver’s license (class 5)
- Ability to respond effectively to changing demands.
- Ski technician experience in a rental shop setting is preferable but not necessary.
- Ability to make basic repairs to skis, boots and bindings.
- Intermediate to advanced skiing or snowboarding skills
- Basic understanding of avalanche rescue equipment
- Ability to drive a vehicle on snow- and ice-covered roads
- Basic understanding of Microsoft Office and Microsoft Access.
- A friendly personality and genuine desire to help and please others.
- Ability to think clearly and make quick decisions.
- A professional manner and calm, rational approach in hectic situations.
- Flexibility and a 'can do' mentality.
- Energetic and patient.
- Good organizational skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, especially when dealing with speakers of other languages.
- Multiple Languages, an asset.
- Passion for the outdoors is an asset.
Working Conditions Accommodation and all meals are supplied while working.
Summer and Winter Schedules are negotiable, depending on the desires of the candidate and needs of the Lodge.
